One night stop en route Calais to Nantes. Secure private parking next to beautiful garden. Very warm reception (with pot of earl grey tea) from Frank and Martine who provided maps and restaurant list. Lovely old property, completely refurbished with excellent taste. House featured in the April 2014 edition of Art & Decoration magazine. We had the standard double room on the second floor (the one with the white wooden beams and film-set lighting) - very attractive ambience; nice 'lounge' area; comfortable bed; spacious bathroom with walk-in shower; good wifi connection. Metro (tram) stops 100 meters from house - ten minutes to city centre (Euro 1.5 per trip). Breakfast very good: cereal; yoghurt; fresh fruit salad; croissants; breads; jams/preserves; coffee/tea.

Room Tip: All rooms seem to be of similar standard, but note that they are accessed by a fairly narrow winding...

We stayed at the La Maison last week on a journey down south and were delighted with the reception we received. This is the benchmark for how a chamber d'hote should be presented and run. Both Franck et Martine the owners are charming and have the most exquisite house that they now operate as a chamber d'hote.
The welcome they give you on arriving is more akin to arriving at a friends house for the weekend. First impressions are important and as you turn off the main and somewhat busy main road you enter an oasis of a garden behind large and secure black gates, with a most beautifully present house. Picture postcard....

The décor of all the rooms in the house are as I said exquisite and mainly down to their daughter (who is an interior designer) and Martine herself. The bedrooms are very modern and "chic" with the character of house blending very subtly into the interior design. The bathroom was similarly very modern and appealing.

To cap it all, breakfast in the morning was terrific, almost a visual piece of art with everything you could desire.

In summary we very much look forward to returning again..................

Room Tip: All the rooms are stunning, however if your budget permits I would recommend one of the larger rooms...

We were at the beginning of a month-long driving trip in France and had a hard time deciding where to stay. Once we had settled on Normandy, Brittany, the Perigord, and the Loire we plotted the routes and tried to allot time in ways that would afford us the most satisfaction. Clearly I missed in planning only one night in Rouen at La Maison.

As others have noted, this is an oasis in a city. We found the home easily and, as others have also noted, the beauty and serenity is truly unexpected once Franck opens the gate. Franck and my husband laughed at having the same names and that set the tone for our brief, yet memorable, visit. Franck, the host, carried our bags to the room with the energy of a twenty-something. He proudly showed us the features of the rooms and explained the history of the house and how it came to be a bed and breakfast. It was close to dinner time so he recommended some restaurants and gave directions.

The room was lovely and peaceful and fully equipped for our comfort. In the morning our breakfast was superb and one of the nicest of the entire trip. Franck and his wife, Martine, gave us much information for the rest of the day and the beginning of our road trip and for that we were grateful. Before we left we toured the gardens and, even at the end of September, they were beautiful. We were sad to leave but it is definitely on our list of places for the next visit. I cannot recommend it highly enough.

this is a real find! A genuine welcome by host Frank and his charming wife. Tea and coffee swiftly served with style in a lovely house surrounded by a gem of a garden. Our top room was wonderful; interesting design and great garden view. Tram service into town every 10 minutes. Yummy French breakfast with fresh croissant and patisserie. Great coffee and the owners such great company with good advice on where to go and what to see.

This is an amazing place to stay when traveling Rouen or the region. The owners are extremely nice and do their out most to assist, help and make you stay pleasant and enjoyable. The place it self is a little oasis! it is wonderfully decorated, very clean newly refurbished with a wonderful garden. Breakfast is excellent. Would not consider any other place.
Highly recommended.

We were lucky to find two exceptional chambre d'hotes during our travels in France this year (the other being Gaillard in the beautiful village of Aubeterre Sur Dronne) - both were entirely different in style but share the same qualities; excellent guest facilities, a high standard of cleanliness, attention to detail and outstanding service.

As others have said, you enter La Maison through a secret garden and find yourself in a beautiful house with stunning decor and the most charming and helpful hosts. We only stayed for one night as a stopover but I'm already planning a return trip for a longer stay in February of next year (we both agreed that we would be happy to spend a few days just soaking up the atmosphere of this wonderful house and not venturing too far afield).

A very special place.

What a lovely, quirky, friendly and refined welcome after over 500 miles of driving from the South of France. Sadly we only has one night here - but would leap at the chance to stay again, or stay longer. Entering through the gate was like entering a different world. A beautiful garden leading up to a lovely mid-19thC house.

Franck was such a welcoming - and amusing - host. The offer of cider (and beer) after our long journey was something I snapped up, while Franck provided a map of the city and explained access (metro stop c. 150 metres away) and restaurant options. He also phoned through a reservation for us. The city centre is less than 10mins by metro tram.

The room was impeccably and tastefully furnished, and the bed large and comfortable.

Breakfast was extensive and delicious - with warm local bread, tasty croissants and a fine array of jams, as well as fruit salad, cereal, cheese and tea/coffee.

I am looking forward to a stopover here the next time we come to France.
