We were lucky to get a room on the first floor as there is no elevator. The room was decent and clean. The window opened onto a quiet area. It's a bit of a trek to get to the sights in Rouen from this hotel. It was fine for one night.

As soon as we entered the room we smelled the mold. Tried to open the window but 2 of the 3 windows were blocked and could not open. bathroom was mini, and the shower cabin was so narrow, I doubt that large sized people would be able to wash themselves in there. The breakfast was minimalistic. We didn't mind walking up the narrow staircases but if you have a large and heavy suitcase and you are not the musculous person, you will suffer! Reception staff is always helpful but not everyone spoke English. Parking lot was only 1min. walk from the hotel. (parking fee)

We hadn't planned to go to Rouen but decided at the last minute, so we had no reservations. First hotel we tried was full for the night, but luckily this one had one room left. We took it because we really needed a place to stay, but it was a bit on the expensive side for what we got. Small room, no elevator (we were on the 4th floor), and showering late in the morning was not a good idea since there was no hot water left ('maintenance' they said at the desk). However the beds were ok, the evening before there was hot water, and the hotel is very centrally located.
And Rouen itself was wonderful, defenitely worth the detour :)

Great position near to the river and cathedral although we found it difficult to find The staff were really helpfull and friendly. Breakfast was really nice and reasonable value. Our only complaint was the size of the room, which wasn't helped by the extra bed. We asked for an extra bed (3 in the room) and they put another in despite 3 beds already in the room. En suite tiny -sit on loo to shave, shower cubicle tiny, could only just get my shoulders through entrance, still overall a reaonable overnight stay

The hotel is in a relatively quiet area of the city centre, especially considering the proximity to the Cathedral and main roads along the river. Unfortunately, this peace and quiet is not replicated inside the hotel - if a tap is run or toilet flushed in the mere proximity of your room a noise akin to a jet taking off will wake you from your slumber. Also, do not expect helpful service from the front desk (although this is not something you should need to call upon and is, unfortunately, quite common in Budget French hotels). Some of the rooms are located through a separate entrance to the reception and you won't necessarily have this explained.

Regardless, Rouen is a magnificent city and the Alba is perfectly located as a base for exploring its attractions by day and vast array of wonderful bars and restaurants by night.
Just as an aside, the part of the neighbourhood to the right as you exit the hotel appears to be gay friendly, if that's your thing.

We found this hotel to be in a great location and easy to find when we arrived by train with the tram stop being near by.The staff were very pleasent and helpfull.Breakfast great value and varied. The hotel was spotless with the cleaning staff being more suited to an operating theatre than rooms as that was how they were dressed !! The hotel is also near the Cathedral which does stop chimming at 10.00pm so you do get a good nights sleep. Would stay here again.

This hotel doesn't have a lift so you might find it difficult to climb up to the 4th floor with heavy luggage!
