“Home away from home in the French Countyside”
Reviewed 1 April 2017 for a stay in March 2017

We were met after a long flight and car trip by our most welcoming hosts. Carol and Phillip immediately made us feel comfortable in their upstairs apartment which was equipped with everything we could possibly need. The bed was so comfortable and we shall never forget awakening to the sounds of birds in the Normandy dawn! We appreciated all the advice about where to shop and eat, and especially the driving tips from Phillip. Thank you for making our first few days in France so memorable.

“A wonderful retreat in the French Countryside”

We have just returned from a fantastic stay and loved every minute so much so, we felt very sad to leave. We were met on arrival by Carol and Phillip who instantly made us feel welcome. Carol gave us a guided tour to ensure we were au fait with the layout and controls etc and had kindly provided us with provisions for our first night (this was most welcome as we arrived on a Sunday). Although Carol and Phillip were always on hand to answer any questions or offer suggestions if we need them, they were never intrusive and the atmosphere was very relaxed. The accommodation was lovely, we had the entire first floor (with its own front door) to ourselves. Car parking was off road and secure at the rear of the property.

Penneville is surrounded by rolling French farmland on the outskirts of a small village and yet less than 5mins drive from the wonderful town of Duclair on the river seine. There are some excellent local restaurants and small shops and you can catch the free river ferry from here if driving to the south side of the Seine.

There is so much to do in the area and within about an hours drive. We had rain for a couple of days but took our hosts suggestion to visit Rouen via bus which left from Duclair. (we parked for free all day in the car park adjacent to the ferry). The bus trip is comfortable, about 30mins and amazingly just over 1 Euro each way!! Although a reasonable size city, the old part of Rouen is very attractive. We took a short walk to the Panorama XXL on the river which is certainly worth a visit and shows how Rouen was in 1431 at the time of Joan of Arc. Other visits included Dieppe, Harcourt (a lovely Chateau and Arboretum, Jumiege, Caudebec, Pont Audermer and Honfleur (with Deuville and Treuville thrown in as a bonus). The Boulangeries etc were brilliant and for basics, you cant beat Carrefour which tend to be open when French shops close.

We had the use of the gardens and outdoor facilities of BBQ, chairs etc if we wanted and excellent wi-fi was provided.

This was our first holiday in France and what a lovely time we had! We are missing Penneville, Carol and Phillip and the local cakes a bit too much! I'm sure we will be returning for another visit.

“Picturesque and comfy”
Reviewed 8 June 2016 for a stay in May 2016

Once you find Penneville, you love it. The gite is JUST outside of St. Paer, and the owners couldn't be more friendly and helpful! They left us some grocery basics, and were happy to answer any questions we had. The apt. is very comfortable, and you have full control of the heating which is helpful. There is everything you need, and the bed is comfortable. Lovely. If you want to be in town, this is not the place. It is out in the countryside--quiet and lovely.

“Short but sweet!”

My best friend and I decided to do a short road trip through France this summer and were looking for a place to stay for a few days near Rouen. We couldn't have selected anywhere better, although it did take a little bit of finding to start with!
The gite was lovely - well equipped with everything we could need, including a much appreciated welcome pack containing bread, coffee, tea and wine. Carol and Phillip were full of useful hints and tips, although sadly we weren't there long enough to check out all of their suggestions. Maybe next time!
In the few days we were there we there, however, we managed to cram in: Monet's house and gardens, a couple of abbeys and galleries, a concert in Rouen Cathedral, an amazing light show displayed against the cathedral, several fantastic meals and lots of pottering around the medieval wonders of Rouen old town.
A really brilliant stay!

“Comfortable, clean and friendly”

The accommodation was generally clean, spacious and well equipped. Carol and Phil were friendly yet unimposing hosts and provided very useful local information eg. scenic drives, free use of Seine ferries. We found Penneville well located for visiting the area. We visited Jumieges, Honfleur, Bayeaux and Rouen from here. Being on the first floor of the house, it was a pity that there is no panoramic window to take advantage of the expansive farmland vista. We would recommend for a short stay in this region.e found Penneville well located fro visting the area

“Excellent again!!”
Reviewed 29 October 2014 for a stay in October 2014

We visited Penneville some 4 years ago and I can't believe we left it so long before returning. Carol and Phillip are fantastic hosts and the Gite is great. We had complimentary bread milk and wine when we arrived. It's a brilliant location being central to a number of places. We are planning to return in the spring.

“A great gite in a great countryside location.”
Reviewed 2 October 2014 for a stay in September 2014

We were so pleased to arrive easily at Penneville (thanks to GPS coordinates provided) and to be greeted by our very friendly host Carol. The directions for the use of the apartment and accessing the surrounding attractions and restaurants were exceptional. The location allowed for day trips to Giverny, Juno Beach, Dieppe and the coastline including Honfleur as well as to many local abbeys, galleries, parks and nearby villages. This Seine Valley region is so beautiful. It was exceptional value for the cost.
