Once you have negotiated your way around Rouen this is worth a stop. Make sure you book table for dinner when booking as may not be enough room. Great choice of menus and wine. The waiting and bar staff are brilliant. Great for overnight stay.

We liked the country setting of this small hotel. We were treated well. We were surprised at the excellence of the restaurant - and liked it enough to eat there both nights of our stay. The raw oysters were delicious, as was everything else. Unlike the previous review, we thought the breakfast was great. Hot milk for our coffee, smoked salmon, cheeses, ham, a wide choice of cereal, eggs for making soft or hard boiled eggs for yourself, breads, croissants and pain au chocolate; honeys and jams, butter salted or unsalted. And the setting of grass and various flowers!

Room Tip: Ask for a ground floor room, especially if you are traveling for a month (i.e. have heavier bags) as...

At €120 per night for a double room I found this very average hotel to be overpriced and a bit snooty [I really don't know why ] Just that feeling you get in some hotels. We had dinner in the restaurant ,Well I had dinner my good lady wife was not feeling the best after a long day travelling, So she just had a bread roll and orange juice, For which they tried to charge €24 as an A La Carte meal. This was reduced after some words at reception when checking out next morning. Dinner I found quite good and the head waiter very helpful and pleasant.
Breakfast was an altogether different matter ,very little choice ,lots of bread and little else, some very funny coloured scrambled egg a few fried tomatoes and that's about all.
We travel quite a lot and stay in all kinds of hotels and really feel that we are ripped off in establishments like this one.
Just because the person at reception wears a suit does not make a hotel first class
Added to which ,my good lady left her laptop on the reception desk while checking in and walked off without it ,Returning within minutes it was gone and the receptionist said he had not seen it .
When she started to cause a bit of a stir about it the laptop suddenly appeared on a chair in the foyer
At checkout that morning we noticed the A La Carte charge for my wife's juice and bread roll.
Not a pleasant way to leave an hotel.

Room Tip: Check your bill before paying

We stayed here overnight to break our trip form North Wales to the Lot. Position wise it is excellent as you do not have to go into Rouen. The room was comfortable and clean and the staff were friendly. It was also very good for our dog as I had asked for a ground floor room and there was plenty of room for his basket on the floor.
As another review states it is very much a hotel for coach parties and there was one staying even in mid December, I can imagine this could cause problems at breakfast. They had left when we went for breakfast, so we did not have a problem. The food in the restaurant was very disappointing and I could not eat my steak, it was very tough. I gave it to our dog later and he had trouble chewing it and he is a big dog. In fairness to the hotel, it had been taken off the bill when we checked out.
The food is the only thing that would stop me staying here again, but I would look for somewhere else that was dog friendly with a good restaurant.

This hotel is in a very pleasant suburban village on the edge of Rouen but close to the motorway network. There are pleasant grounds in which to enjoy an al fresco drink after driving and the rooms are well kept and pleasant. The staff welcome was very good and the food in the restaurant at dinner good if a tad pricey. Unfortunately breakfast though an adequate range was decimated by a coach party prior to our arrival. Overall a good choice for Rouen or en route.

We stayed here twice, on the down and back from the Dordogne, paying 100 euro B&B for two. At just off the A28 its a good location.

When we arrived for the first night they told us the restaurant was full and we could not eat - not even a bar meal! No amount of persuasion was going to change their mind, gallic shrug of indifference and told to drive into Rouen (about 15 awkward minutes away) to find a restuarant or go to bed hungry. We learnt from this and cleverly booked a table for two for the home leg!

On the second occasion we were concerned to see two very large coaches parked up - this hotel is not big and these monsters carry a lot of people..... Anyway we enjoyed our pre booked meal in the restaurant, expensive, average quality but welcome after along drive. and had a good nights sleep.

We like to relax over breakfast, but this was chaos - both sets of coach parties arrived simultaneously and stripped the buffet. The poor girl in charge of breakfast was on her own,and run ragged trying to cope. We managed to grab some toast with the last two pieces of bread and a couple of grilled tomatoes and sat in the corner. The coach parties departed as if by magic, rising as one to get to the awaiting buses on time and the buffet was slowly replenished, but by then we were ready to go.

We will probably give this place a miss next time, as other people say it's an oasis, clean, pleasant surroundings but too much competition for food!!

Hotel La Bertelière in Saint Martin du Vivier near Rouen is situated in a lovely garden with trees. It is quiet.
We booked into a 3 star hotel but with the new system of awarding stars in France, this hotel has become a 4 star hotel.
The service provided by the staff is worthy of a 4 star hotel.
However there is no lift and no air conditioning in the rooms. This is very uncomforatble in hot weather. The room is all right if you are staying for one night or two but it is not very big if you want to stay much longer.
Now the advantages of this hotel:
the staff are wonderful - friendly and helpful at all times
There is relatively good access to wifi. There is a minibar in the room. There is air conditioning in the restaurant and the bar of the hotel. It works well when it is on but the restaurant gets very hot when some members of staff turn it off.
The breakfast is fine although there is not a good choice of fresh fruit in my opinion.
The dinner is satisfactory although I would have preferred more starters with salad.
Overall this is probably a good hotel in the winter but we would not stay there again in the summer because our room was so hot.
