We have been to Fontevraud twice previously and stayed in the Abbaye hotel. As this is being refurbished we changed to the Croix Blanche in the village centre right off the square. When I booked this the owner, who is Dutch, couldn't have been more helpful and initially I wanted a superior room with a bath eventually settled on a mini suite at a discounted rate as all their other rooms with a bath were booked. The hotal is charming, with rooms surrounding a courtyard, some rooms are in the main building and others in annexes, but the furthest walk from the main building is no more than 20-30 yards.
Our room was a true piece of French elegance, fireplace, period furnishings, high ceilings, and yes, a large bath! The room overlooked the main square which had recently been totally revamped, so we had the best view in the house for the opening and dedication ceremony. We had no problems checking in or booking a table for dinner. They have two restaurants, a bistro and a more upmarket restaurant. We ate in the bistro as the main reastaurant was slightly pricey, the food and service were a joy, so we didn't bother going anywhere else for the three nights of our stay. Overall this hotel is excellent value for money, rooms clean, sevice and welcome more than you could ask for so we will be back.More
