“What a find!!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 19 February 2014

My husband and I had just landed in Auckland, collected the hire car and were bound for Hamilton for the night before continuing onto Rotorua. It was getting late so we decided to have a look in Huntly for some dinner and arrived at The Old Court House around 8:30pm.

The Old Court House looked quaint but inside was welcoming. We both loved the history that is obviously key to this place and how the owners have retained this charm.

Unfortunately a couple of things had sold out (my husband ordered the rack of lamb but but was later told that they'd run out and I had eyed off the salmon special but it was no longer available) however we both settled on the scotch fillet. When it arrived I must say we were both very impressed! It was cooked to perfection and even though my husband rarely eats steak, he loved it! The glass of house red I washed mine down with (Dusky Sounds merlot from Hawke's Bay) was most adequate too.

We weren't going to stay for dessert but couldn't go past the warm chocolate brownie and we weren't disappointed! When the chef himself brought it out for us to share, he also advised that they hadn't run out entirely of lamb rack but he didn't feel like it was enough for a serve; it's fantastic when the staff take such pride in their work.

All up it cost us about $88NZ for two steaks, two house reds and the dessert which we thought was good value, especially as it was such great food, a lovely setting and the staff were so friendly.

If you get a chance, pop in and try for yourself (and watch for trains that sometimes go past - that was a bit of a surprise too!!)

“OMG, and its here in Huntly!!!!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 3 September 2013

Joined a group of friends at the Old Court House on Sunday night, had never being here before and OMG it was fantastic!
Whilst the venue is, well old as one might expect; the food was top quality and wine selection well thought through. For the two of us, an entre, mains and bottle of Rua 2010 merlot; about $121.00 more than reasonable and worth every penny.
The service by the owners was great, the younger staff however could have been a little more polished.
We'll be back, loved it!

“Judge For Yourself”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 2 July 2013

This hidden treasure in Huntly has been one of our favourite restaurants for the past 6 years. The authentic building (which served as a Court House for many years) has a lots of historical pictures adorning the wall and in the winter an open fire, adds to a welcoming ambience. The owners and staff are very friendly.

The meals are freshly prepared and full of flavor. I always enjoy the Caesar salad and the gourmet pizzas, cooked in a pizza oven with manuka wood are a hit with everyone. There is a good selection of wines and beer to compliment the meals.

I would rate this as one of my favourite restaurants.
