We stayed in La Baule for 3 nights to break up our journey to drive further south for our summer holiday. It is near a shop, a bakery, a couple of restaurants (including a good pizza place who deliver to your room!) a few other amenities and is situated about a 5 minute drive down to the busy beach.
This bed and breakfast has 3 chalet/bungalows in the hosts back garden. There are a lot of great things to say about this place. The rooms are well kitted out, decorated and accessorised to a high standard and cleaned meticulously. The bed and pillows were big and very comfy, the luxurious shower was also big and the double shower heads very relaxing whilst standing on the massaging smooth pebbles underfoot. It was very much like living in a Fat Face store with its beach inspired vibe and it was nice to relax on the terrace and dip in the jacuzzi. The breakfast was extensive with delicious homemade jams and an amazing selection of different breads.
However there were some personal preferences that didn't suit our style of travel. For example whilst its very peaceful (as its out of town), I imagine that the crunch of gravel whenever anyone walks across the garden could begin to get annoying after more than three days. The family dog is really friendly but you can't really eat outside without his attention if he's in the garden. Also, as bizarre as this may sound, sometimes it felt a bit too pristine and you didn't want to use anything in case you put it out of place. The family were all very welcoming and attentive but often it felt like we were invading their family space as we were under their feet and using the same facilities. However, they were very friendly with lots of tips, recommendations and advice on anything and everything which suits a lot of people.
A couple of our own tips on this place to avoid making the same mistakes as us: its probably best not to sit on the patch of grass by the jacuzzi as this is where the dog does its business, and there's a clean and tidy kitchen space but only a microwave to cook with (we wish we'd checked that before buying food to cook from the supermarket!)
I'd recommend this place if you have your own transport, prefer a peaceful (out of town) location, enjoy luxury accommodation and being well looked after by your hosts.
