“Five star in every way”
Reviewed 22 May 2014 via mobile

We stayed here on a road trip through the Loire, Brittany and Normandy. The hotel is set in beautiful grounds and is a haven of solitude. The staff were uniformly polite and helpful. Our room was spacious, beautifully decorated and immaculately clean. We chose the menu degustation with wine pairing for dinner. The size of each dish is the antidote to nouvelle cuisine. Quite frankly we were full long before the pudding course which consisted of a full size Cointreau soufflé together with a tray of six beautifully made individual sweets. Everything was therefore of five star quality which does of course include the bill. Our advice is to arrive with a full wallet and empty stomach, you will leave in the opposite state but the pleasure obtained will be worth the cost.

The chateau is just unbelievable big and beautiful!! Everywhere in the garden was well cleaned even in the winter! The winter and the cold just made the experience more perfect!! The restaurants are just delicious both! The room is big and comfortable - quite old, but it is expect in a chateau, and it's in good conditions.

Our Parisian friends booked this Chateau for us after thanksgiving weekend. Included was a night lodging, dinner, and a breakfast. I have to say it will be one of my favorite memories of France! We stayed over a saturday night and thoroughly enjoyed the aperitif in the fireplace room followed by a culinary experience that was most memorable! The rooms were huge (coming from Paris) but fairly modest. The whole experience was fantastic and I highly recommend a visit that includes dining!

Peaceful ambience with discreet luxury, magnificent view, invisible room service stuff with visible results of their work. You can easily oversleep excellent breakfast in the rooms with extremely thick walls and heavy wooden shutters as nothing will disturb you. Sophisticated food and helpful waiters.

We stayed 2 nights in a deluxe king on the first floor of the chateau. The room was spacious and light with a view of the Loir river in the valley below. It was beautifully decorated with a large chandelier and antique furniture.

After champagne on the terrace, we had dinner in the gourmet restaurant on our first evening and in the bistro on the second. The food in both is beautifully cooked and presented. Breakfast was also in the bistro - on our second morning, we had to go to reception to ask them to call someone to take our order (why hide in the kitchen?). Otherwise, service was very good.

Do visit nearby Angers (especially the castle and cathedral) and the beautiful chateau of Plessis Bourre, a short drive from the hotel.

Room Tip: Worth extra for a room in the chateau.

We arrived at the hotel on a very warm afternoon in August after a long drive from Ile de Re and were immediately cheered by the receptionist informing us that as the hotel wasn't that full we were being upgraded to a bigger room. Other hotels please note great way to treat your guests.
The room itself was very spacious and well appointed whilst having plenty of period features which lifted it above many of the bland "corporate" rooms you can get in many top hotels. We were lucky to have the outdoor swimming pool to ourselves. In addition there was a bathhouse with clean towels and robes plus a Jacuzzi and a couple of showers enhancing the experience for guests.
We had booked in to the Michelin starred restaurant and had chosen the fixed gourmet option complete with wines for each of the courses. We were fortunate that the weather was pleasant enough for us to sit outside on the terrace. Amuse bouche and petit fours enhanced our dining experience and despite the price of the whole package it was an excellent meal which will live long in our memory.
So although the stay was quite expensive as a one off to finish off our road trip this hotel is strongly recommended. The room was great and the food really top notch, go and try it.
