A very interesting museum in the heart of Angers. The museum had a very reasonable admission charge of 4 Euros. There was a very engrossing exhibition in a sideroom about the history of Angers including artefacts and paintings of the city. Once in the museum proper, it contains exhibits and paintings ranging from Roman times up until the present day and even including two goldfish in a bowl in the modern art exhibits. I felt it was well worth visiting and would definitely recommend it to anybody visiting the city. I visited on a Sunday afternoon and it was fairly quiet with only a few visitors about.

This is a museum of art located in a mansion, the "Logis Barrault" building, at the place Saint-Éloi. It is part of the Toussaint complex, which includes the garden of Fine Arts, the David d'Angers gallery, the city library and the canteen. It is worth to see it. You can have a discound ticket which will include and the castle in good price. All are very close to each other. Two or three temporary exhibitions are presented annually at the museum in the temporary exhibition hall, and also there is the permanent exhibition of David d Angers.

Angers has several art venues, not forgetting the magnificent Apocalypse tapestry in the Château itself. The Musée des Beaux Arts is a fitting venue for an exposition of the City's history, both archaeological and artistic. Housed in a beautifully renovated ancient building, in the recently restored town centre, there is much to see. We managed a free visit one year, on the 'Night of the Museums', when historical buildings and Museums open their doors to the public free, or with reduced price, accompanied by special events, musical, poetic etc.
There is some fine art and I recommend the work of 19th century painter Alsatian Jean-Jacques Henner. We could not leave without purchasing a print of his 'Portrait de Laura Leroux'.

We went there as a family over Easter holidays. Staff were most un-child friendly which was a pity as our grandsons love looking at the art. Had to ask for childrens pack to go around the gallery.
Ate in the cafe which was child friendly and good value for Angers.
