First sign we saw was "Menu Bistronomique" - it set the tone. We were not disappointed. Tasteful decoration, good choice of food on the blackboard, attentive service. A deliciouse meal. Nice touch - hand towels in WC rather than a noisy Dyson! Unreserved recommendation.

Very small and nice restaurant with original local French food. Good wines at very good prices.

We booked this after 2 years previous experience. It has changed hands and sad to say the quality has not been maintained. Menu promises well but delivers much less than previously and level of service much reduced. What a shame. Good luck for the future but we will not go again.

Le Petit Comptoir opened in 2005 and Wendy and I became regular clients, enjoying, as many other reviewers did, an inventive cuisine created by a chef of real talent. However as time went by, the quality of welcome became more and more unpredictable. This very often manifested itself in evident frustration at the mere fact that Wendy doesn't eat meat - witness the occasion when bacon was added to a soup but we were told that it was OK since they were only small pieces!!! So we stopped visiting in 2010.
After finding out that the restaurant has changed hands, we decided to give LPC another try this week - and I am thrilled to report that from the moment I booked to the moment we left , the experience was like meeting up with a long lost friend.
Wendy's non-carniverous tendencies had been noted and dishes following were modified to suit. Wines can be ordered by the glass at a reasonable price from a very fair selection - an excellent Puilly Fume for instance at €5. The blackboard menu remains with a €19 option for two courses at lunchtime - choose from three options for starter, main and dessert.
Stand out dishes were a velvety Pumpkin Veloute served with a slick of basil oil, Supreme of Guinea fowl stuffed with raisins and shallots with an oh so smooth parsnip puree, roast charlotte potatoes and a dreamily deep-flavoured stock reduction with what I guess was a hint of Madeira, and finally prunes(!) poached in red wine and green tea - a-maz-ing!! with a little tea flavoured financier (cake). One minor quibble, if I must, was a starter of sole in the fashion of a roll mop - a style of cooking a bit robust for the delicate fish leaving a great flavour but a tough texture.
Service was relaxed with the new owners seeming to be in their stride and the young chef, visible through the serving hatch, relaxed and well on top of his kitchen.
Welcome back old friend - and yes we have already booked again!!
