My husband travelled to Nantes for business and I tagged along. He was originally booked for a chain hotel but when I found this here on TA, well, you know the rest.
With so many boutique hotels popping up everywhere, this was a real find! One of the best boutiques ever. It is so charming. Okay, yes, the rooms are small but not all rooms are created equal. We were there for 12 nights so the first room we were given was too small for that duration. If we were just passing through for couple of days, it would have been fine but not for 12. Still, I have to mention, the rooms are very functional and uses space well. Every room has a nespresso and they have really nice pressured showers, which is important to us.
The next day, one of the guys from the front desk asked me if the room was too small for us. I think he realized the room will not due for 12 days. So he showed me 2 rooms; 1 in the same price category that was bigger b/c it was the handicapped room but still much bigger and looked more comfortable than our original and the 2nd slightly more expensive but much roomier with a small and semi stocked fridge. I think we paid around $24.00 more nightly for the 2nd room. Definitely worth it! Even if your just passing through, upgrading is worth it! Our new room was wonderful with domed ceiling in a sunken room with a work desk on semi-second floor, 4 stairs, with an iPod dock, fridge, nespresso and work space. The heater in the room is so quiet and works wonders. The bathroom's still very small but the tub/shower is wonderful, especially after walking around in the cold rain.
I have to give one critique and that is the rooms need more shelves, closet space and hooks for towels and robes. That really is the only fault I can find.
As terrific as the hotel is, the staff, I mean everyone from the front desk, to the cleaning crew are the most helpful and friendliest people anywhere! We really enjoyed talking, learning and receiving recommendations from them. They provided for everything and more.
I had their breakfast buffet only twice. I think it's rather pricy for what it is but that's the going rate in most hotels so it is what it is and I can't criticize that. They don't have a kitchen so they don't cook anything there so the breakfast is very simple but with good quality croissants, baguettes, cured meats, cheese, hard boiled eggs and such. on couple evenings we didn't want to go out to eat so we ordered room service. Again, since there isn't a kitchen to cook, most of the food is just re-heated from other local places. However, if you just want cured meats and cheese, that was great with a bottle of wine.
We are hoping to return to Nantes and to Sozo. It was a great experience! I hope all the same staff members will be there if and when we go back.
