Owner description: The Botanical Garden: at the heart of plants The Botanical Gardens of Nantes, with 7 hectares of green spaces in the centre of town, more than 10,000 living species, 800 square metres of greenhouses and more than 50,00 flowers planted each season, holder of the Remarkable Garden label, is among the four leading botanical gardens in France. The collections have developed and specialised over 150 years. The Botanical Garden, which is both a scientific and a pleasure garden, has become a world reference, especially for its camellia collection which is unique in France, for the culture of epiphytic* plants in a semi-natural setting and for its permanent concern for the re-introduction of rare species. As an example we will cite the wild tulip, which disappeared in the 1970s and was reintroduced in 2010 in the vineyards of the region. Its great beauty in all seasons and its remarkable specimens (Hectot's Magnolia, American tulip tree and more recently a Wollemi pine, etc.) make the Botanical Garden a major tourist attraction in Nantes, visited every year by more than 1.2 million visitors. * Plants that grow on other plants without being parasites. “Not much to see but good place to relax”
Reviewed 4 June 2014

Compared to other major public gardens in France or elsewhere, this one does not have so much to offer. However it is a nice place to relax close to the railway station.

“Small & Beautiful”
Reviewed 20 April 2014

Well, I'm not a botanist, but I can say that the place is small, beautiful, clean and well maintained. All the plants and trees have been labelled. A lot of kids/infants were playing around and teens were reading. There is a restaurant as well. And there is a small enclosure with some lambs and hens inside which the public can get in and feed them.

“Full of birds!”
Reviewed 8 January 2014

Since I am a bird enthusiast, it was a great experience for me to visit this place. It's a small, very pretty garden in the city centre. Great place to have some relax and enjoy beautiful views. The park is full of exotic flowers and plant arragements around. Everything is very colorful and pleasing. And as I said, it's full of birds, flying, singing and walking around. Most of them are grown there, cause they are too exotic to be wild. There is even cage with parrots!
Apart from birds and plants, there is also very nice coffe shop, where you can drink something and have a piece of cake.

“New Year's Day in the rain....”
Reviewed 1 January 2014 via mobile

It was never going to be at full glory!
Being one of the very few places in Nantes not closed on New Year's Day, the park gets extra points for that!
However all of the buildings remained closed, so can't comment on the hothouse or cafe etc!
There is always something beautiful, unusual or surprising in each corner of the park, goats hiding from the rain in their menagerie (sensible goats!) sculptures made from plants and also amongst them...
Biggest disappointment was the lack of sunbathing chicken (though looking back at the weather this was obvious!) would love to revisit I. The summer for full effect.
