Excellent dinner, warm welcome, good service. Good value, house wine is excellent, little snacks and a creme brûlée foils gras as bonuses. Snails, lamb, monkfish, smoked fish dishes all delicious. Would go again definitely.

On our recent stay in Saumur we returned to Le Carrousel, a restaurant that we'd first visited in October 2012. We were not disappointed and ended up eating there twice during this visit. We experienced the same warm welcome and relaxed atmosphere and the food was every bit as good as we remembered. On neither occasion was the restaurant crowded. Perhaps this is because it is in a quiet area a little away from the centre and it really is worth the effort to seek it out! We ate from the €26 menu and started with a trio of fish smoked by the restaurant served up with bearnaise whipped cream and two small pancakes. This was delicious and while we were waiting for it to be served we were treated to a very tasty amuse bouche based around pate de foie gras and topped like a creme brulee. We followed this with a monkfish fricasse and St Jacques and langoustine cream served with rice and a small salad. The Loire has some wonderful wines and we shared a delightful bottle of Saumur Puy Notre Dame. My dessert comprised two large, macaroon like, gorgeously chewy meringues with ice cream, drenched in a chocolate sauce. My wife chose ile flottante. Both disappeared swiftly. After coffees, just as on our first visit, we were brought two small complementary glasses which we think contains a citrus element, a spirit and we think, some ginger, a nice finishing touch. The service was attentive without being overbearing and the next time that we visit Saumur, we will undoubtedly return to Le Carrousel.

We visited le carrousel in mid July. What could we possibly remember?
The warm welcoming feeling and an overall lasting impression that this was one of the finest dining experiences we had in our three weeks in France.
The hostess attended to us as if we were the only ones in the restaurant. We weren't.
The garden space was neat and spaceous.

Traditional, very friendly restaurant with appended café that caters for the soldiers of the adjacent old cavalary school.
What could be more French?
Foie Gras Maison au Layon et son Pain Irlandais
Crépinette de Pied de Cochon Fait Maison
Chocolte fondant
with excellent open wines with each dish.

Me and my girlfriend dined at this nice, tiny restaurant after the Anjou Velo Vintage. The place is comfy and the decoration is "welcoming" (though it may be improved). The food, on the contrary, is just great: typical dishes from the local area, reviewed with a modern twist. Tasty and well dressed, every dish comes as a little treasure box to discover and enjoy.
The starting ingredients are of great quality (tasty vegetables, excellent meat) and the chef proved to know how to exploit them.
The service was excellent, while waiting we were offered a couple of incredible "amuse bouche" (among which the mouth watering crème brulée au fois gras) and we were timely and carefully served. We also had a bottle of local wine and in the end the price was ~30 euros each.
