“A two star hotel with a four star location”
Reviewed 20 June 2014 via mobile

We stayed three nights. Our room was on floor 3. It was on the quiet (back) side so had a beautiful view of the chateau but we were continually having to duck around the ceiling butresses to avoid painful collisions. The room was of reasonable size but much of the floor space was not useable because of the sloping walls. The furnishings were minimalist and make-believe period original. Overnight the room attracted hundreds of tiny flying insects (no screens) many of whom died on the bathroom foor and fixtures. Very small storage drawers; two tiny closets. No in-room coffee. No bathtub. Small box shower, no slip-mat. Scruffy towels. Three star breakfast, in a prety room.

Nice hotel in a beautiful old building (house?). I visited with my aunt with an Odysseys tour group. Our bathroom was updated and had a nice tub/shower. We overlooked the Loire, which was nice to see, but the traffic on the road outside was very loud when we wanted to have the windows open for some air. I would recommend a room not facing the river if you are visiting during a time when the weather is nice for opening windows.
Breakfast had a large selection of breads plus eggs and sausage, yogurt, and such.
Convenient location. Very polite and helpful staff.
Bike trails nearby for running.

Room Tip: Don't get one facing the river if you are likely to want the windows open.

Nice little hotel just out of Saumur centre so easy walk into town. We requested a room at the back off street as so many have suggested and it was provided (rm 212) direct view up to the Chateau. Staff polite & efficient - traditional French breakfast. Don't use the lift, take the amazing staircase it's worth it! We visited in last week of April.

This hotel is in a beautiful old building at the foot of the Chateau in Saumur. Our room overlooked the courtyard so we awoke to the sound of birds singing. If we leaned out our window we could see the chateau high up on the hill above us. The breakfast was delicious. It was just a short walk to the center of town for dinner. Saumur is a charming town. The people at the hotel were most helpful.

We stayed here for one night as part of a cycling tour. The hotel has a wonderful location and the ground floor communal rooms are elegant and charming. The historical central staircase is lovely. We had a room on the 2nd floor with a breathtaking view of the chateau, especially at night! I'd certainly prefer that to the river on the other side although that would still be lovely. The room was quite comfortable but was a bit tired looking overall. The bath was small but welcome, but the shower screen not big enough to prevent splashing. Breakfast was generous. Overall, certainly worth staying here.

The second time we have stayed in this truly elegant hotel. It is an 18th century
historic house, turned into an hotel with sensitivity and a truly artistic hand.

The bedrooms we have stayed in, one on the 2nd floor with delightful trompe l'oeil
fresco, and a luxurious one on the 1st floor, made me want to wear something truly
elegant to go down to the pretty flowered courtyard with a terrific view of the castle of
Saumur and have a glass of the local wine.

The staff are charming and cannot do enough for you. Breakfast is delicious with
newspapers provided. The restaurant and the end of the garden is very good and a plus
if you don't want to drive to eat.

All in all, one of the very nicest hotels we have stayed in.

Room Tip: Overlooking the courtyard would be my favourite because of the view of the floodlit castle and the...

The hotel is situated next to the Loire, it has a beautifull and very convenient location, the building on the outside and the public areas are very beautifull and nicely restored in their old pride. Although the rooms we slept in where very disepointing. The first room on the first floor was small and very out dated with a huge gap underneath the door, we asked for another room and this was no problem, we moved to a spacious room underneath the roof, but again outdated. All the rooms and public areas where very clean and the service was very good. I would suggest the management to refurbish some rooms this way the hotel will definatly deserve 4 stars.

The restaurant next to the hotel is very good, it has a fantastic wine list, great service and a broth range of fine whisky.
