We got a gift pack with an accommodation to choose. We wanted to visit Saumur for a long time, so we gave it a go. The hotel is located on the island amid the Loire River. Nightlife is on the right bank in the old town, but not far away walking and it makes the hotel quieter.
Parking is possible in the street before the hotel.

Have diner in town and try the "galipette" a (filled mushroomhead), and "fouées" (bread you fill yourself with goat cheese, "rillettes" or whatever you prefer). Have a red Saumur-Champigny and your stay will near perfection.

Saumur castle is a few hundred meters away and for those interested there is a huge battle tank collection in a near by museum, including soviet modern giant tanks and missile throwers.

Room Tip: We had a room overlooking the Loire River, nice sight at sunset and early next morning

Dear Customer,
Thank you so much for your interesting commentary! Your suggestions are really good!
And there are plenty of other things to do in Saumur and around the town!
You can visit the famous Cadre Noir, taste our sparkling wine or Saumur Champigny in the several Caves or visit the amazing cave dwelling along the Loire!
We hope to see you again to follow your discovery of the Loire Valley. Best Regards, Marielle/Franck LECLERC

A lovely location, looking over a backwater of the Loire and 10 minutes walk to the centre of Saumur.

The staff on the front desk were very friendly and helpful.

We did not have breakfast as we thought the price too high and there are a couple of good boulangeries 2 minutes away from which to buy delicious breakfast foods.

This hotel is centrally situated in Saumur and surprisingly quiet (just keep the window closed). Breakfasts are more than adequate and were included in our package. The staff were very friendly and helpful. It's always nice to encounter such staff and they're a credit to the hotel. Politeness always goes a long way, and both ways, we find.

The rooms are clean, spacious and with air conditioning. Decoration is typically modern Best Western. The bathroom was equally spacious. We asked for extra pillows which arrived without fuss. We also availed of the hotel's freezer for freezing ice blocks overnight. Wifi reception in our room was very good, but logging in every time was a bit of a hassle and could be simplified to a couple of clicks.

Parking outside the hotel is safe - don't waste your money on the garage. Just park outside the front door. Not leaving valuables in a parked car is a simple piece of personal security that ought to be followed by everyone.

There are soon good restaurants within five minutes walk of the hotel. So we had no complaints on that score. It's not difficult to find plenty of good places to eat near the hotel, some are within a couple of minutes walk so there's no need to walk a half mile. Additional restaurants are to be found near the theatre and in the little streets and square in that area, so it's worth a look.

Walks along the river are pleasant and feel safe. There's a cash machine in the bank beside the hotel. The tank museum is a must for little boys and big boys too.

Saumur has a good location on the he Loire and is ideal for exploring the region east and west along the river.

Room Tip: Ask for a room overlooking the bridge.

Dear Customer,

We are pleased to read that you liked your stay in Saumur. Several customers choose our hotel for his ideal position. Indeed you don't have to walk far away to find traditionnal and good restaurants. We hope to see you for another trip in the Loire Valley. Thank you another time for your commentary. Best Regards, Marielle/Franck LECLERC

Good standard, reception staff friendly and efficient and spoke English. Good quality buffet breakfasts but at 12.50 euro each added to the bill as well as a 7 euro charge per night for our dog and 7 euro a day for the garage. There was plenty of on street parking around the hotel, but because we were staying for 5 nights we wanted to feel secure as left items in the car. We booked a premium room which was quite spacious with air conditioning which was needed so we could keep the windows closed as there was traffic noise from the bridge. There was hardly any storage space for shirts, blouses underwear etc View over a very dried up branch of the Loire not all that inspiring. Quite a brisk walk over the bridge to the town centre where we found a great choice of restaurants, one evening it rained and the walk wasn't at all pleasant. There is one very good restaurant 'La Reine de Sicile' just around the corner from the hotel, gourmet food, excellent service but quite expensive, reservation required, if you only want a light meal or any other type of cuisine you must walk into town. Safe (50 euro deposit for the key, which was waived for us as we were staying 5 nights), tea and coffee making facilities which weren't very inspiring. Notice on fridge " do not put any food inside" ! One gripe - initially no help whatsoever with luggage carrying up the slope into the hotel, but after complaining a male reception member of staff came out to help, not everyone has wheelie type cases and what with the dog and all his paraphernalia there was quite a lot to bring in ( we are Seniors !) why can't they provide trolleys like many other hotels we visit?. No help when we checked out. Not many riverside walks as promised, Saumur out of the historic centre was pretty run down and smelly, lots of litter, weeds and unkempt paths with dog mess. Quite a few homeless men sitting around or wandering the streets. Wi-Fi reception wasn't that good in the bedroom on my Blackberry but better in the reception area.

Excellent location on island edge of old town, free street side parking for our rental car, good restaurants nearby, recently remodeled, overall a value in the Loire. Plus a free concert every night by the petite granouille (frogs) in the river!

Dear Customer,
We apologize for the improvised frog's concert! This is what we call "The French Touch"!
Fortunately all our rooms are air-conditioned so that our customers don't need to open Windows.
Hoping to see you again! Best Regards, Marielle/Franck LECLERC
