Owner description: Tourisitc visits of Ackerman's cellars in Saumur and tasting. A three-part visit at the heart of troglodyte cellars : a trip throughout history, an artistic experience and a break on the Loire river... Founded in 1811, Ackerman is the leading producer of Loire Valley fine sparkling wines. Situated in Saumur, on the banks of the Thouet river, a tributary of the Loire, at once informative and entertaining, the cellars of the House of Ackerman combine charm, heritage, and prestige. The wines of Ackerman are true to type, well-balanced and elegant. Thanks to a large selection of fine sparkling wines (Cremant de Loire, Saumur Brut) and Loire Valley still wines (Saumur-Champigny, St Nicolas de Bourgueil, Chinon, Sancerre...), you will be able to appreciate the prestige of a great brand which has seduced consumers world-wide over the past two centuries. Ackerman is bubbly, luminous and enticing. The House's still, sparkling, organic and alcohol-free wines are available at its boutique all year round. Discover Ackerman's world of wines.

A bit disappointed really. Was hoping to see more and learn more. A self guided tour with an i-pad is available but didn't really give any more information than the boards as you go round. We've had much better winery tours in other places. The wines, however, are delicious. Lots of choice and something to suit every pocket and tastebud. A sparkling red is unusual but well worth trying and if you spend €40 you get 1 ticket price of €5 refunded. Alcohol free wines are also available to taste and buy if you have younger children with you.

If you are in the area and really want to try the wine then look no further. Ackerman staff are super speak a variety of different languages and don't look down on you if your French is a little rusty.

Its clear they love the wine and that comes across at all times especially when choosing a wine for that special occasion!! (She loved the wine)

They have a cave tour which I did not do as was running out of time but I will be back next year with my wife to do this so she can enjoy too!

They don't come over and push the wine and its not a heavy sales pitch its rather pleasant and they let you try all the bottles to make sure that you are having the right one for you.

They also have coach parties but even when busy the staff always have time for you such a great experience, I cant wait to return.

Thanks for all the help choosing the wine next year we will be back both of us this time!

Thank Peter C

This is essentially a very old wine cellar, set back off a quiet street (where there are quite a few other wine producers) in a beautiful old chateau. The 'shop' itself is an extremely spacious modern area with an island counter in the centre of displays of the different wines they produce & sell. Very helpful staff speaking good English are on hand to help you taste as many of the excellent wines as you wish. Prices of both wines & related gift items (carafes etc) were very reasonable. There is a tour of the caves and at times a special presentation which we would have loved to have done, had we had the time. Maybe next time.. Dogs also allowed.

You are spoilt for choice when you drive down Rue Ackerman with all the various houses tempting you in. We chose Ackerman and were not disappointed. The staff are very knowledgeable and certainly know their wines. The reception area is very welcoming and offers you a wide range of sparkling and still wines.

Having been on the tour before I can certainly recommend that as well. I learned a lot about the history and the process and know the various steps which collectively is wine tasting!

If you are going to taste the wine, make sure you have a driver or alternative transport!

We found this tour very interesting and Informative relating to the making of wine over the centuries. The artwork was very interesting and enjoyable. The young lady who helped with the tastings explained to us the differences between various wines we were tasting and the ages, which was very helpful and we bought several bottles of the wines we tasted. Well worth the 5 euros entrance, even better that it was half price with our tickets from maison des vins (well worth a visit for recommendations)
Beware there are no tastings here half an hour before lunch or end of day closing so plan your visit accordingly.
