We stayed at this lovely Chateau in the beautiful town of Saumur on the 24th and 25th of June, as a romantic package in a very romantic room facing the garden on the second floor. The welcome, help and assistance from Thierry and Yolaine was perfect including a lovely bottle of cremant de loire from a local chateau (Montreuil-Bellay). Our room was very spacious and decorated beautifully in keeping with the period of the chateau whilst being both comfortable and complete with a modern bathroom. (There is a lift for the luggage or if you don't want to use the stairs). The swimming pool is very warm and has changing and shower facilities - perfect for a little relaxation before getting ready for dinner. We asked for a booking for dinner in an informal restaurant and on both evenings we had a good dinner - although I preferred the Esgargot with it's lovely courtyard. Sitting in the garden with aperitifs we felt completely relaxed. The hotel is about 5 mins from the shops and 10 mins from the town - an easy walk including up to the chateau or along the river. We used this as a base for visiting Chenonceau and Fontevraud. If you plan future visits I would not recommend Fontevraud this summer because if you are able to come back next year you would benefit from all the restoration which is currently in progress.

If you're looking to stay in the western portion of the Loire area, Saumur and this chateau are great places to be. This chateau was built in the 1890s (I believe) but was totally remodeled and refurbished by the current owners, Thierry & Yolaine. They have taken great effort to make sure everything is in tip top shape from the manicuring of the property, to the condition of the chateau and all of the common access and guest rooms including the beautiful breakfast room. The breakfast is optional. Uno the dog is also a nice and frinedly member of the chateau. Parking is onsite and ample.

As for things to do, there are of course the many chateaux to see. We visited Chateau Breze for its unique history of being constructed atop an underground village dating to 900 AD. We also visited Chateau d'Saumur which is situated right in town. Another chateau visited was Chateau d'Ussy which is very pretty and quite interesting for its architectural points and the grounds. The two trees adjacent to the church on the grounds are spectacular and have lived through many different stories.

Also highly recommended if you're looking for a truly French dinner is restaurant L'Escargot. The foie gras (not pate) was excellent. which is a short walk from the chateau.

My comments reflect the other tremendous reviews, because their experiences mirrors our Honeymoon stay. We stayed in a variety of places in our 4 weeks in France and can't recommend this place highly enough. Fantastic place, loved it here and wished I could have stayed longer. Stayed in the Rising Sun Suite and it was worth every cent. Yolaine and Thierry are fantastically friendly, organised a last minute horse-riding lesson for my wife and even tolerated my appalling French!! They do ask you to let them know the night before if you arent having breakfast, as it is a small family run chateau. All of the rooms are individual so, as others have mentioned, ask Yolaine for advice if you are not sure. Dont go for a 5 star hotel, stay here for a 6 star experience!

Room Tip: Ask Yolaine for advice, all the rooms are individual. The Rising Sun Suite is beautiful.

I read several fabulous reviews of this place before I booked it for a very special trip with our Australian friends, who were celebrating their 30th wedding anniversary. As the gates opened we were greeted by a beautiful classically French house and a lovely warm welcome from Yolaine, Thierry and not forgetting Uno - the resident Chateau pooch who is always keen to give you a guided tour. Yolaine and Thierry are genuinely lovely people and their charm and graciousness is reflected in the style of their hotel which mixes traditional elegant French decor with warm comfortable chic. This is a gem of a place - our 'home from home' in a beautiful part of France. The Chateau is located a few minutes stroll from central Saumur and some great local restaurants. It absolutely deserves it's accolades and reviews. We couldn't have wished for better.

We stayed at this chateau as part of our honeymoon trip and we absolutely loved the suite we stayed in. The room itself was exceptionally spacious with a lovely separate living area, perfect for relaxing and enjoying a drink. There was a lovely view over the chateau from this part of the suite. The bathroom was also lovely and both were very tastefully decorated with a Japanese theme.
We were warmly welcomed by the owners and our luggage was taken care of and already in our suite before we got there. A dinner reservation was made for us and any further information about the town and maps were offered.
The mini bar prices were very reasonable compared to other hotels of this standard. Our only suggestions would be to have liquid uht milk in the rooms for tea as the powdered sachets made it rather undrinkable. Also we thought that for the €15 breakfast the ham and egg options could have been included rather than extra.
I would definitely recommend staying in this beautiful family home where you are guaranteed to get a warm welcome.

We stayed in Saumur for 1 night during a quick weekend getaway from Paris. This place is incredible, a true French chateau renovated with a delectable classic taste. The owners, also managing the hotel and welcoming you, took care of everything during our stay. They recommended a couple of wine visits, booked us in for dinner at nearby Turquant (they managed to find us a table on Easter Monday at 5pm...when pretty much all of France is either booked or closed for dinner!). Great place, will come back soon!

Room Tip: We stayed in the suite overlooking their quite garden and it was simply perfect. The bathroom is bea...

Stunning late XIX Century Château bought by Yolaine and Thierry ten years ago, exquisitely restored and decorated with excellent taste. Ten spacious rooms (only one smaller), all different and charming. The bathrooms are fabolous. We stayed at the Blue Suite, enjoying nice views to the magnificent garden. The bed was very comfortable. Very nice toiletries and thick and fluffy towels, great water pressure and almost instant hot water. Delicious and very generous breakfast in a nice setting, where you can admire a gorgeous XVIII-XIX century ceramic plat collection (Thierry's devotion), with treats as apricot and prune jam made by Yolaine and, atention to the coffee lovers: expresso from a state-of-the-art Nexpresso machine. The château offers the privilege to stay within a private park with a swimming pool, that we hope to enjoy in a future visit (in Summer of course). Parking lot in the property as well. The location is unbeatable, in the center of Saumur, walking distance to all sights and wonderful restaurants (one even with one star Michelin). The hosts were extremely helpful with information, directions and reservations. The château is their home and this gives you the most possible warm feeling. Even Uno, their dog, was cute and SO friendly (he gets depressed when nobody is around).
In conclusion, we recommend this hotel in the highest possible terms. The attention to detail is everywhere. We immediately felt at home. Big bravo for the most gracious hosts. A+ for the château.

Room Tip: The one on second floor with incredible view to the château of Saumur.
