My husband, parents and I stayed at this hotel over a long weekend in May touring the Loire Valley. The hotel is by far the best in Saumur and one of the best in the region. It is a perfect option for those who appreciate history and architecture, and who don't want to stay in a soul-less chain hotel.

Though Saumur as town is a bit boring and not as beautiful as others in the Loire, the hotel's location serves as a very good base for touring the region, and is a wonderful place to come back to after a day out.

The building is stunning, and the interiors are elegant and warm. The rooms are beautifully appointed, spacious and very clean. The grounds and garden are also beautifully maintained. The owners are very helpful, friendly and hospitable. The hotel is also within walking distance of wonderful restaurants (we liked Bistro les Tontons and L'Escargot).

My only (minor) criticism is that our room was cold (it was an abnormally chilly weekend), and even though the heat was turned on, we couldn't feel it, and were quite cold throughout the night. Note also that the hotel has a "no room key" policy. I fully understand the owners' rationale for wishing people to feel as if they are at home, but I still found it a bit disconcerting leaving my room unlocked when I went out... but perhaps I have trust issues!

All-in-all a wonderful stay, and would fully recommend it.

One of the best places we have EVER stayed. Lovely, elegant convenient (once you find it) and QUIET! All the comforts are there in the bathrooms and both bedroom and bath are huge and well decorated. Our hosts, Yolaine and Thierry, are the best part. They treated us like friends from the start and were happy to plan our days for us. We stayed 3 nights in rm 307 and hated to leave. The room looks down on the garden and is decorated in red Toile de Jouiy. All the furniture suggestsw 18th C, and that is the room's name. We looked at other rooms when they were vacated and decided ours was the best! Other reviewers were accurate - the wi fi was iffy, but there is a computer for guest's use downstairs. There was a bad smell in the bathroom when we enterred, but when we ran water, that went away. Breakfast was very pleasant and the croissants were to die for. We would return in a hearbeat.

Room Tip: Rm 307 is very quiet and very elegant.

We were only on a short break and booked this only a few hours before we arrived. The gates off the main road opened into a beautiful courtyard with gardens surrounding the magnificent chateau. The owners came to greet us and show us where to park and help us with our luggage. Their hospitality was lovely and once we had settled in our room we were back down sitting in the gardens sipping a chilled glass of the recommended local cremant. Definitely recommend this place.. It was gorgeous throughout and we will return soon.

Everything is very nice, rooms are gorgeous, owners are great an very friendly people, it is pity that we had to stay just one night and leave, i would definetely recommend this hotel!
We have traveled 2500 km in France staying in 7 hotels during our journey, the level of hospitality here is absolutely higher than anywhere we stayed in France.

Finishing a memorable trip to France and having stayed in a rental home and the abbaye in Burgundy, the crowning experience of our trip was provided by Thierry and Yolaine at Chat de Verrrieres. In an elegant and cozy atmosphere our hosts made us part of their home along with their dogUno who showed us to breakfast every morning. From the Cremant de Saumur on arrival , fire in the hearth when we returned from excursions, to the breakfast every morning with warm pastries and croissants- this was our home for three days. The rooms varied in size, view and unique antiques, but our small room was more than adequate especially when you can lounge throughout the estate. Chat de Verrieres was perfect for relaxation and one of many reasons to visit Saumur. It's location was ideal for walking in Saumur, jogging and as a base for excursions throughout the Loire valley. Every excursion was accompanied by sage advice or arrangements by our hosts such as bike rentals for ride along the Loire, a must see recommendation to visit Chateau Chenonceau, or our day trip to Fontevraud L'Abbaye. Worth the detour for a great memory. Luxurious accommodation befitting the Loire Valley.

My wife and I recently stayed at Chateau De Verrieres in Saumur. The location is ideal, easy walking distance to town's attractions and restaurants. The grounds are impeccable and the rooms are extraordinary. This 100 plus year old mansion is amazing. Our room was beautifully decorated, quiet and very spacious. Our hosts, who live on site, could not do enough for us. They booked restaurants for us, suggested places to visit while in the Loire Valley and generally made us feel at home from the moment we arrived. The house itself is spectacular. Our package included a very generous breakfast in a delightful setting. There is ample parking on the grounds and one never needs to handle luggage neither at check in nor at check out. However, the highlight of our stay at Chateau De Verrireres were our hosts. I cannot find sufficient words to praise them nor this wonderfully magical place

My wife and I have traveled to many places and stayed in many hotels around the world (although mostly in Asia, North America, Australia and Europe). Chateau De Verrieres belongs definitely to the top five or even the top three of all the hotels we have stayed in. It’s not necessary to repeat everything that the previous reviewers mention (wonderful and impeccable clean rooms, the fantastic ambiance, the beautiful grounds, etc.). What should be mentioned, however, is the extremely welcoming and helpful couple that own Chateau De Verrieres, Yolaine and Thierry Their story about how they attained the Chateau, and renovated it in record time was fascinating. In addition, they had such good suggestion about what to see and which restaurants to visit (or not to visit). For instance, Thierry suggested that we should visit Le Licorne restaurant at Fontevraud-l'Abbaye. They have just recently lost their Michelin star and were thus eager to regain it. The lunch we had there was a treat, but we would never have found it without the help of Thierry. Similarly, Yolaine (on our second day of our stay) bought a special brand of tea that we like, just as a treat for us. Needless to say, this is not your averaged hotel, it’s special and you should not miss it if you are in the Loire Valley.

Room Tip: All the rooms are very nice
