Stayed in Saumur for a coupple of nights, and had booked at la Lacasserie. The hostess is very lovely and eventhough she doesn't speak much english and we not much french but we manged.
The rooms are in reallity (ensuite) bedrooms in her house, and you have the feeiling that your visiting someones private home. We weren't prepared for that through what we'd read about the place before booking. But if your ok with that, la Lucasserie is a very lovely guesthouse/home.
It is located outside Saumur, and taxies are diffecult to get (After 10pm there's none) so to get to and from Saumur at night you should be driving yourself. There are two restaurants nearby the guesthouse, we tried one but I'm not sure that I will recommend it, eventhough it has sharm.

We stayed with Gerard and Sophie who made us very welcome in their beautiful home. This is a lovely french country type house and is part of the chambre d'hotes option accomodation (which in my opinion are always a far nicer place to stay than hotels when in France). Our room was huge as was the ensuite bathroom. There is a pool in the garden but it was a bit cold to try out when we were there! Breakfast was a very relaxed affair with croissants and Sophie's homemade preserves highlighting the table, coffee and eggs to order. The location is excellent if you want to taste wine in the wineries tasting venues nearby and walk home afterwards!. There are a few restaurants but the main town of Saumur is about a 30 minute walk by the river. There you will find a bigger range of restaurants and for a special treat try the Michelin star Le Gambetta (make sure to book your taxi home though). I would be happy to stay here again.

Room Tip: If you arrive early you are offered your choice of rooms available!

My husband and I stayed 3 nights in La Lucasserie. 3.5 km from Saumur, We rented bikes and cycled in and out of Saumur (3.5km), we also ate one night in a little restaurant in St Hilaire Saint Florent, (location of the house) - but generally, there is not much in this little village apart from several 'caves' or wine cellars and a couple of shops. We could not have asked for a warmer welcome into Sophie's home at La Lucasserie. She was so helpful, even giving us a few lifts into town, lending us a backpack for the day, and inviting us into have a tea beside her wood fire one evening. You will not go thirsty or without something you need! Her family's hospitality was remarkable and she has information on every single attraction/restaurant/event within the region on offer! There is a small heated (25C) swimming pool which closes from October onwards. The room was grand like the house, if not a bit dark/cool and the bathroom ideal.

Saumur is a nice little town easily accessible on the Loire- easily explored in a day - if you follow the river from Saumur down to Montsereau there are some lovely little spots (especially if you drift off the main thoroughfare to see some of the countryside and it's vineyards behind).

My husband and I stayed here for 2 nights and had a lovely stay. The owner and her daughter were very helpful and friendly. They gave us loads of information on where to go in Saumur and its surroundings and we saw the Olympic Ceremony in their living room with them, it was fantastic. We went to a local bar-tabac for our pre-dinner drinks, where the locals were very welcoming and then to a restaurant for our dinner, this was all within walking distance from our Logis. Saumur is very historic and worth visiting but we also surprised ourselves by visiting the local Mushroom Museum which was very interesting.
The rooms are big and comfortable and the breakfast was substantial, plenty of choice and tasty. A great place to stay.
