“Great little hotel slightly off the beaten track”
Reviewed 21 October 2013

This hotel is about 3 miles outside the centre of Saumur. It is a "Logis de France" but not like the traditional format of a French country hotel. It is modern and not that attractive from the outside but it's real strength lies in the couple that run the hotel. First of all our twin bedded room was quite small but the bathroom facilities were new, smart and spotlessly clean. The TV in the room was remarkable in that you could pick up both BBC1 and 2, which for me was quite a surprise. The public areas were light, airy and comfortable. The hotel restaurant was one of its real strengths serving typically excellent French cuisine at a very modest price - 19.50 euros for a 3-course set evening meal which was great value for money. The couple running the hotel have very good interpersonal skills, making one feel very welcomed into their almost home which is the hotel. Provided you have a car this hotel is an excellent base for exploring the Loire Valley and the delightful compact historic wine town of Saumur itself.

We spent one night here before our chateau rental. Friendly staff, fine breakfast. We had planned to eat downtown, but were tired from our flight, so opted to eat at the hotel. Had a delicious 3 course dinner on the patio. It far exceeded our expectations.

This is a great hotel for a stopover or a few days on the Loire, although a car is advisable. Easy to locate, good, free parking, though for most people, too far to walk to the centre of Saumur (great market) . Really friendly and efficient staff at reception and in the excellent restaurant. Terrific food at very keen prices with an excellent choice of regional wines (and good advice). Hotel was busy but in our well-equipped 2 ground floor rooms there was no noise at all.

Saumur is a lovely, less touristy French town. This hotel is on the other side of the river, so a car is a must to get to downtown for meals. But with a car, it is an excellent value. We were able to sleep 5 (parents and 3 older kids) in a suite with a loft and an extra bed downstairs. It was very tight, but comfortable. Service was great, room was clean, AC worked well. We did not try the breakfasts. We stayed two nights while exploring the castle, a winery, and some troglodyte caves.

My partner and I were stayed for 2 nights in June 2013. We toured Saumur and then went on a day trip to LeMans. The room was clean, updated and definitely served our purposes. We ate dinner and had cocktails in the restaurant on the lovely patio. Although a bit removed from downtown, we did manage to walk back from the downtown area. Recommend a taxi both there and back or rent a bike from the hotel directly.

We stayed in this hotel a couple of years ago as our usual hotel was full. We have to find dog friendly places and this was listed as taking pets. Last time we were here it was winter time and the owner allowed us to take our small dog into the restaurant for dinner & breakfast as the hotel was not busy. This time it's July and the hotel is busy however they have a lovely terraced area where we were able to enjoy dinner & breakfast with our dog under a table. The staff are still lovely, very friendly & helpful. Our room was to a high standard, clean & with a comfy bed. There are some BBC TV channels on the television, so I was able to catch up on the news. Considering the hotel had so many guests we never heard a sound from the other rooms or hallways, so quiet so able to get a good nights sleep.. The food in the restaurant was as we expected, very good and the waiting staff excellent. If you go do try the local Saumur wine it's lovely! All in all a great place to stay over, just what we needed after a long day travelling.
