“Friendly, helpful B&B”
Reviewed 19 February 2014

We recently stayed for 3 nights and had a great time. It's a historic house which has been delicately restored in a shabby chic style. Lots of quirky arty decorations, like little silver birds hidden in the rafters. Breakfast is a relaxed help yourself style. There's a toaster, microwave & kettle available to use. Also Wi-Fi, which works in most of the house. On street parking outside the door. We stayed in the pegionnier room, in the rafters which had plenty of space, including a sofa. Bed was extremely comfortable. Jerome was very welcoming and special thanks to him for helping us book a table when most of the restaurants were full, because it was valentine's day

We had a little trouble finding the hotel but after two phone calls (in English) we found it. Jerome was not around but his niece was there to greet us at the door and you could not find a more helpful and charming young lady. She guided my partner to a parking area behind the hotel, carried my case to the hotel and gave us non-stop information on both the town of Laon and the surrounding area whilst doing so! The interior of the hotel is so quaint and quirky that you instantly fall in love with it - lots of rickety stair-cases, little hallways and niches, all quite clearly very old and decorated in keeping with the age of the building. Our room was large and overlooked the main street, which was not a problem despite it being the height of the tourist season. We had everything we wanted and felt at home straight away. You can walk out of the front door straight into the tourist area and the town which is attractive and interesting. The hotel does not provide dining facilities in the evenings but there were a number of restaurants nearby - we were given complimentary welcome drinks when we said we came from La Maison des 3 Rois and enjoyed our evening very much. Breakfast was very good, lots of variety and well laid out as a help-yourself bar - normal for the area, and included in the price of the room. All in all we really enjoyed the stop-over and will definitely go back there again if we are in the area.

Room Tip: We stayed in a room at the top of the hotel - spacious and comfortable.

Thank you Jerome for a very enjoyable stay in your lovely guesthouse. Our room was amazing and great value for the quality of accommodation which you provide. Breakfast was perfect and it was a great stopping off point on our way to Provence and some welcome sunshine!

Room Tip: Even though we were only two, we had the family room because we wanted a bath tub and it was great.

Stayed for one night on our way down south, in the Grenier de l'abbaye room. Jerome was away but we were looked after well by a lady whose name I didn't catch. Building is old and characterful, with quirky features and interesting decor that will appeal if, like me, you prefer to avoid chain hotels. The room was spacious and very clean, and the bed very comfortable. Lovely views across the valley and if you hung out of the window (carefully!) you can see the cathedral. Very quiet overnight, despite being near the centre of town. Good shower and reasonable breakfast, the usual French fare, though the coffee could have been hotter.

Laon itself was a pleasant surprise - well worth a visit - I'd never even heard of it before staying here - a lovely old town perched on the only hill for miles. The cathedral in particular was stunning. However, in common with a lot of French towns, the pavements are festooned with dog muck, a pity.

Ate at Le Parvis (see separate review).

Laon is a beautiful town, with this b&b in the center.
Walking distance from everything+ you can park your car in the street.
The rooms are clean, modern, but very romantic with old building structured visible and lots of woodwork.
Nice breakfast and very friendly owners.
In all, a great weekend get away!!

Not only a superb place to stay in terms of the quality of the accommodation but also the warm and exceptionally good welcome from Jerome. He goes above and beyond the call of duty to ensure all is simply perfect - which it is! Eat at 'Arsenic and Old Lace', next to the cathedral. This is not only great food in lovely surroundings but very good value for money.

Room Tip: All are excellent and impossible to choose but we went for the one with a view.

Jerome provides a warm welcome to his stunning townhouse in Laon - and the gorgeous rooms and relaxing breakfast are well worth the price (very comfortable beds as well!) For anyone travelling with a young family, there is a fantastic side room with 2 single beds, and a cot is also available (and baby bath if you need it). Such a rare find in Europe - I would highly recommend it.
