“Nice hotel spoilt by need for a refurbishment”
Reviewed 21 August 2014

Not an easy hotel to find but beautifully situated next to a lovely lake .... the perfect location !
Warm welcome from the staff and reception areas very nice in a 1980's-ish way.
Our 'Superior' room was of a good size overlooking the lake, but it was in dire need of updating and spring cleaning ..... the valance on the bed was stained, the room smelt terribly musty and the bath / toilet / bathroom needs to be totally modernized to 2014 standards.
The drinks at the bar were ridiculously expensive ..... nearly 9 euros for a pint of beer and 5 euros for a cup of hot water and a Liptons tea bag !
The restaurant is lovely with a glorious lake view.
The menu is quite extensive, but also overly expensive, as is the wine ...... the cheapest bottle of rose being 28 euros.
We just fancied a steak (medium rare) and French fries ....... no problem ..... our steak were obviously of an excellent quality, but they were totally ruined by being overcooked until they were dry and chewy .... such a shame !
The price for our 1 night stay was 221 euros ....... absolutely crazy ...... no wonder the place was half empty.
To the owners of this hotel, please take note ....... spend a bit of money on modernizing your hotel and charge reasonable prices for your (hopefully improved) food and drink, then maybe your hotel will be full with guests and diners as it deserves to be.

Very pleasant location and very adequate and comfortable room. I had a view of the Lake so no complaints (all the rooms are on the lake side).

There were ten of us ordering the fixed price menu on Saturday evening - service was good but the main dishes were not over exciting and my sirloin steak was not what I was expecting. It was on the chewy side and a bit dry but the starter and desserts everyone chose were good. Beer is expensive even for a hotel. On the following night we had a celebration dinner large number of people and all had pre-booked their food - service again was good but the dishes were inconsistent - one table gettin a dish that was OK and another getting the same dish that was poor. Food was not bursting with flavour. They are very miserly with coffee servings - everything coming up in an espresso cup whatever you ordered...

Breakfast was very limited choice compared to other hotels of a similar price and standard. Although the bread (as you'd expect) was good and plentiful. Scrambled eggs were not very hot and bacon was pale looking and not replenished very frequently. No chef on hand to do you something special. So no fried egg. This would have been a nice touch and a bonus in fact. Verdict - for a one night stay it was nice - for a two night stay the food could be a let down.

Room Tip: Ask for a quiet room not overlooking the swimming pool

French hotels have a problem: how to match up to the cafes, bars & restaurants which, because it is France, in general - if not always - set a high standard (at least compared to UK eateries). The challenge is compounded because hotels may of course be full one night and not have many guests on another, so staffing levels can get stretched. So it was with my stay at this otherwise pleasant establishment. It is not good enough to expect your staff to cater for more people that they can fairly cope with. It is not fair on your guests either: if I say I want a 'rare' steak, that is how I want it, and it would help if it was good enough to be eaten rare. Sending food back is not my style, but if I have to, I will. The beer was exorbitantly priced too. If I ever return, I'll eat out locally.

Room Tip: East side has the lake views. Ask for aircon and check the mini bar is working.

We spent three nights at this hotel as a centre for visiting Laon, Reims etc. It is close to an activity park but the clientele were mostly quiet. Rooms were comfortable, service was good and the food up to French standards though the limited menu would have palled during a longer stay.

Room Tip: all rooms face a beautiful artificial lake.

The location is excellent in every way. There were two key problems on the night I stayed, 16th July. The reception was OK but not welcoming, the room (003) was ground floor with view on to the lake, functional but let down by a nasty stain on the carpet which always reflects badly. More importantly, the Maitre d' was at pains to tell me how busy they were (under-staffed or badly organised I asked myself) and the waiters flew around with hard heels on a wooden floor which undermines the lovely tranquil atmosphere the location offers. The breakfast waiter did not even say "good morning" and when I checked out, I asked for my comments to be passed to the manager but did not feel assured that they would be. Of 12 nights in France, this was the only disappointing one.

As a couple looking for a short getaway, this was perfect. We travelled via the eurotunnel on a Sunday. The roads were peaceful and an enjoyable drive. Has we reach our desination, coming over the hill, you see the lake........wow.

On arrival at the hotel, we found there was plenty of parking. The hotel looked modern and smart. The hotel room was spacious and clean. Our room over looked the lake which was beautiful. The hotel was also quiet and peaceful.

The drinks at the bar was expensive I.e a JD and coke 9.50 euros, but we did enjoy the drinks, sitting in the summer house on the lake. The restaurant was a little pricy too.

We also played 2 round of golf. The course was 2 minutes away by car. The 18 hole course was fantastic. Lots of flies, but being next to a lake, it's what you expect.

We also drove into town, which was 10 to 15 minutes away. This was full of history and little side streets and lovely buildings. The cathedral was very impressive.

Well that's it really. If you some quiet time, relaxing and some golf, this is the hotel to go too.....

Room Tip: Lots of little restaurants around. Also get drink for the room

A great hotel and fabulous location. Quiet which suited us perfectly. We had a one night stopover after arriving from the UK via the Channel Tunnel on our way to Bourges.
Great room with balcony overlooking the terrace and lake. The hotel may look bland from the outside - don't be put off!
