If you are in the areas this place is worth a visit. The shop covers various Martell Cognac's , but you really appreciate the drink after the tour. This tour covers the history of Martell and the manufacturing of Cognac, plus a tasting at the end. Go for the 18 Euro tour as you can compare the two different grades of Cognac.
Note that there are various tours during the day and if you don't speak French choose the English speaking tour.

After so much hype, the factory is just a tourist magnet
Not much cognac making happens here. Well made up to create atmosphere and fool your senses - ceiling is blackened - meant to be mould from fermentation - actually is paint!
Even the information given by guide is perfunctory. Videos are out of context - all artificially laid on. Good English.
Tastings were murdered by sweets - this must be to impress the gullible.
Cheaper to buy a glass from a bar, sit under shade and pretend you are in a Cognac vineyard!
What a waste.

We arrived in Cognac and were lucky to book a tour for later in the day, in English. The lady who took is round, Celia, was an excellent guide and we learnt about the history of cognac making. At the end of our tour we tried some of the drink, with some wonderful French patisseries to accompany it. A must do whilst visiting this lovely town.

This was a most informative and interesting tour. In particular, Celia, our tour guide was animated, professional, warm and friendly. She made the tour worthwhile with her calm gentle manner and relaxed approach. Nothing was too much trouble. We loved every minute. Thank you.
