“Hotel Atlantic - La Rochelle”
Reviewed 15 September 2013

Excellent hotel, friendly staff and very good breakfast. Very good location a few minutes walk from the quay, Modern and clean, but with old features. The hotel owner is particularly helpful and you can take your breakfast out into the courtyard. Hotel is very easy to find, and is a couple of minutes from the quay.

Room Tip: Higher rooms have a good view of the courtyard, Room 12 was a small double, clean and modern.

Yes this place is in a good location for walking through the old port BUT La Rochelle is a small town and it takes a few minutes to walk from further afield. I can't recommend the place! The Room we had ( sold as a double comfort) was so small and cramped you felt trapped. That was only after a few minutes. It has no air conditioning so at night the room was just awful with the August heat. Just airless. So you open the only window only to find that because you are so close to the old port the noise is terrible. We did not go to bed until 1 am but groups of people ( by now loud and drunk!) did not stop passing our window until gone 3 am. On arrival we were told breakfast was extra. We were on a touring holiday and knew that this was the case with some of our hotels so we ate elsewhere ( the wanted 9 euros which was very expensive - can get for under 6 in a number of cafes). But when we left we were told that breakfast had been part of the deal and our issue that we had not eaten there. To be fair the room was clean, bed comfortable and there is a nice garden to sit in.

The hotel is well situated close to the old port. Very helpful staff. Clean (though very small) room. Having spent 5 previous days in a hotel with air-conditioning, this would be my only negative comment, as there was none. It was extremely hot and very uncomfortable at night. We read other comments on Tripadvisor and decided not to have breakfast.

We had our border terrier dog with us and that was not a problem at all.

The hotel is an old historic building in the old part of La Rochelle. It is thus perfectly located to visit the city and take in its restaurants and atmosphere. It is modern and very clean. The room was fairly small but it is to be expected in a centuries-old building.

Very close to the old port on a mainly pedestrian only area.Brakfast was a little pricey but sometimes you want to start the day in a relaxed state, the croissants always aoppeared when we sat down a table. The hotel was spotles and towels changed every day The first room we had was noisey in the morning as there was a building being refurbished opposite the hotel. We were immediately changed to a quiter room at the rear of the hotel which was much larger (27) for no extra cost. There is a small garden at the rear which is nice to sit and read in for a while. The hotel is also very bike friendly

Room Tip: Rooms at the rear are quieter and room 27 is larger, there is one room at the rear with a balcony(nu...

Good central location, 2 minutes walk from the harbour. Room was spotless and modern, but very small. Well priced compared to other hotels locally. Breakfast is charged extra at 9 euros per person and definitely isn't worth this for toast and pre-packed cheese and preserves. At the last minute we were brought a basket of croissants but would advise heading out to a cafe elsewhere for a nicer cup of coffee and a pastry. Staff were all friendly and helpful, overall would recommend.

Went to La Rochelle and paid 89.00 +( 1.10 per night city tax)Euros a night for our room and this DID NOT include breakfast. Breakfast was 9 euros per person but not a wide variety. Our room was a sardine can..... okay our room was extremely tinsy tiny especially for me as I am pregnant with a belly that did not make the room feel bigger. Each time I turned and tried to do something I hit a part of my body on a wall or something. Hotel room is clean though and towels were changed everyday. Staff helpful and friendly a bit too commercial at times but nothing to loose points about. The walls are thin (well we could always here when someone came up the stairs or was talking). We had a peek at the other rooms at checkout while it was cleaning hour and felt like we got the most tiny room in the hotel (7) but the other rooms were not bigger by much either. I suggest you book this hotel as a last minute no other choice option and not in the peak season when its 75 euros. But still it is too expensive for what you get.......unless you don't mind paying that price to sleep in a cramped sardine can with no breakfast.
