“Oasis of calm”
Reviewed 27 September 2013

This hotel was located in the very centre of La Rochelle and has off street parking which is very necessary.
The town was very noisy and busy obviously in july but the hotel was quiet and comfortable. The room was a bit small and cramped and the bathroom a little basic with planning needed to use it comfortably. The staff were welcoming and friendly and breakfast ok. A good place for a short stay when passing through or as a base for exploring the area as we did.

This hotel is in a great location for exploring La Rochelle and does have a limited amount of private parking which should be booked in advance.

Rooms can be a little small but still acceptable particularly when you are out the whole time. Breakfast is only average.

Can be trciky to find and a satnav is preferable. Roads around the hotel are quite narrow but as it is part of the old town not unexpected.

Friendly and helpful staff all speak good English

We stayed at this hotel last week and we were pleasantly suprised at the greeting we received from the staff. They were extremely helpful and made our stay special. The rooms were small but that suited us as we were out all the time. The only downside is there is no air conditioning but they supplied us with a fan as it was super hot.

Great location as not far from the old town and was near the daily market. I would stay here again if I was going back there.

If,as did we, you arrive on a Saturday or, I assume, any other market day the hotel is inaccessible by car. We arrived in town around 11 am, hoping to leave the car, have lunch and check in at the appropriate hour. Perhaps also due to the effects of the Hotel de Ville fire a few days earlier, many streets were closed, including those to the hotel. The tourist office advised waiting until 2 pm after the market closed - the signs indicated that the market streets would reopen at 3pm - it was 4 pm before the crucial one leading to Bazoges was opened. In the meantime the entire center of town was a maelstrom of cars jamming every street - not only was there nowhere to park, there was nowhere to pull over and consult a map. Finally we managed to find a rare parking place near the railway station. The receptionist at the hotel was somewhat overwhelmed by the sudden simultaneous arrival at 4 pm of most of the car-parking guests, that problem exacerbated by the fact that the street at the hotel gate is wide enough for only one vehicle and lined with parked cars. Yours blocks through-traffic while you seek entry. Once the car was stashed the location was fine. Other aspects of the hotel were adequate but nothing more.

Staff are very friendly and the private parking is good but must be booked as there are less spaces than rooms. As night closes the area is very noisy from the streets around and finding the hotel is a night mare. Rooms are very small and the shower is so small its hard to turn around in. You get what you pay for but our two days was enough, As in all France expect to be ripped off for everything. Food is very costly and the same in every resteraunt FISH. Barry Lawlor Wakefield UK

Room Tip: Dont be put off. Its still good value for money

Nice clean rooms we stay for a night and it was perfect the rooms were clean and tidy nothing special but in a very good location in the center of town, on street down you are surrounded by restaurants and shops. Literally a 1 minute walk to the old port.

Room Tip: If you have a car make sure you reserve a spot its well worth the 8 Euro as parking is not the easie...

Really well located just off Place du Verdun, down a little side street, really easy to find. Amazingly cheap bus from the airport only €1.30, Welcoming and friendly staff. We had room number 10 on the ground floor. The bed was comfy and the shower powerful. We opted out of the €9 breakfast preferring to go to the cafes round the market place for coffee and buying pastries. There is a car park which looked very secure and is right next door to the hotel. We arrived by bus so didn't need to use but parking is difficult in La Rochelle so this is an added bonus if you are driving. We loved La Rochelle and Il de Re.. Public transport was brilliant and Place du Verdun is a main hub with regular buses taking just 50 minutes to reach St Martin on Il de Re at only €5 return. We will return and would stay at this hotel again.
