“A pleasant and comfortable stop”
Reviewed 11 June 2014 via mobile

A very pleasant hotel in a great part of Poitier. Close to everything and in a very quiet street. The bed was very comfortable and there was also a good bath to soak in at the end of the day. Staff were pleasant and helpful. A nice overall setting.

It was a surprise hotel we stay one night. It was a stop to relax front our day driving. Old cathedral change into a hotel. Great idea on the hotel remodeling. LOVE the ceilings and the way they mix the modern with the old architecture. We had the top floor room and the view was beautiful. It feel like I was in the roof. The bathroom was brand new, and the bed was great and comfortable. Mercure did a nice job on this hotel. Place was clean and the front desk service was great.
Restaurant was superb!. It was an open Kitchen and the environment is very nice. You were able to see the chef cooking. Need to make reservation!. It was a Wednesday and there were a lot of people coming for dinner.
Breakfast was ok. They also have a nice cocktail rooms close to the Gothic ceilings pretty cool.
Parking lot accessible and close by to the hotel. They have a deal with the Parking company.
I believe they need a better business center (too, too Small) just because you can see this is a business hotel too. Free WIFI.

We chose a room in the old part and were a little disappointed with the finishes. Very roomy but the ceiling looked like it might fall in on us. The original stone columns in the room were something and nothing. There was a function in the restaurant so we went elsewhere (superb). There's no parking but there's an underground car park very close. Overall, slightly disappointing.

Room in converted abbey, with original columns featured beside rather brutal modernist concrete, but for Poitiers this is the best place. Functional rather than luxury. Very close to centre, easy to walk to from the TGV station - there's a pedestrian bridge and moving staircase to get you up the hill.

My partner and I spent a night there to celebrate a special occasion. The restaurant situated in the restored former abbaye is just incredible. We didn't have diner there but in terms of design it is just amazing. Overall the room was disappointing. I thought we would have a bit of the former abbaye in the room since we booked a privilege room but it was not the case. On top of that there was a problem with the heating system so that it was freezing cold in the room. We asked for another room but did not get it. The servive provided was not the service of a four-star hotel. You get a service of an Ibis!! the service is not personalized.Otherwise the breakfast is served in a very nice environment, You can actually see the former arches of the abbaye!
The quality of the breakfast is also on average good. Good nespresso coffee. Fresh fruits. Different
types of yogurts. sweet and savoury selection. The staff at the breakfast corner was nice.
the bed was very comfortable.

My sister and I had only a one-night stay-over in Poitiers in early October, 2013 and had reserved a twin room at Mercure Poitiers Centre on-line before we left the U.S. for our trip. We were pleased at how close to the city center the hotel is located: within a couple of blocks of several of the major tourism sites: the church of Notre-Dame-la-Grande and the Palais de Justice. Cafes, restaurants, shops and the Cordeliers shopping center are all very close. This hotel is located perfectly for travelers without a car. (We took a taxi between the train station and the hotel.)
The building of the hotel is a blend of a modern wing and a 19th-century church, complete with windows with stone tracery, pointed arches, columns with fluted capitals. We stayed in one of the less expensive rooms in the modern part of the hotel, but when I expressed disappointment in not being in the historic section, the wonderful concierge offered to take us on a tour of several of the vacant rooms. He gave us a personally guided tour of the historic part of the hotel, complete with commentary and a real enthusiasm for his place of employment: he took us into his "favorite" room which had many of the architectural elements (that I mentioned previously in this review). All the rooms he showed us were decorated in a blend of modern and period furnishings. The concierge also reserved a taxi for us for our time of departure and recommended local restaurants after praising the hotel's restaurant (which we did not choose because we wanted to dine out).
OK, so our room was in the modern part of the hotel: it was quiet, very clean, with a modern shower and fixtures in the bath, fridge, plenty of closet and counter space (more than in many hotels). The beds were comfortable with fluffy duvets. There are only two things to improve: the shower needed a grab bar since the shower floor was a very smooth surface; the carpeting showed evidence of a past stain, although the carpet was very clean and without any odor. (I'm obsessive about clean flooring.)
Overall, the Mercure Poitiers Centre receives a very good rating from us.
