“A very good location and helpful staff”
Reviewed 23 July 2014

The position of this hotel is great - right in the centre of town surrounded by lots of good restaurants and bars. As another reviewer mentioned you can even follow a walk around the town centre by following the blue line. There is a car park (an extra 6 euros - worth it we thought) and the receptionists were both friendly and welcoming and very helpful when it came to getting out of the town, providing us with a map and clear instructions - essential with all the one way streets! Our room was fine; with electrically operated grille shutters and air-con; a separate toilet to the bathroom; and with tea and coffee making equipment.

However we didn't have breakfast which at 12 euros we thought excessive! We made coffee in our room and ate some small cakes we'd brought with us instead.

We were only there for one night but would stay there again and take time to explore this lovely city more.

Room Tip: Our room at the back was very quiet (apart from the fact that it was 14th July and there was a massi...

We decided to break up our long drive from the south with a stop in Poitiers. We were not expecting much, but we were very pleasantly surprised. The hotel is very well situated to walk and explore this small city. The hotel was rather disappointing:
it was dark and dingy. The towels were small and paper thin. The bedspread was yucky.
After a long drive it was fun walking around. Uniquely, there is a blue line near the Tourist Office, if you follow it you see some amazing architecture.

The city has loads of cafes, restaurants and bars. They were hopping.

This hotel has a great location, situated in a courtyard off a busy street with many restaurants and a Carrefour and it is only a short stroll to the town centre. The rooms were nice, clean and a reasonable size. Staff were mostly friendly.

Hotel is very central so great for sightseeing. The room we were given only had a shower so we asked if it was possible to have one with a bath and we were upgraded to a superior room. Tea and coffee was provided in the room and it was very clean. If you take a two minute walk into town there is a wonderful coffee shop with amazing cakes!

Room Tip: Ask for a view over the town, it's lovely

I stayed at this hotel for 5 nights. I arrived at about 1700 having walked from the station with a large suitcase. Note there are 141 steps to negotiate upwards, though fewer if you go the right way – I didn’t!

The man at reception swiftly handed me my room key – nothing to sign due to the excellent online reservation system. He suggested the Bistrot du Boucher would be a good restaurant to eat in that evening (Sunday) and it was. There are many other good restaurants nearby.

The room (109) was good. In a quiet location overlooking an internal square. I slept well every night. This was partly due to the presence of a secondary door in the room to reduce any noise from the corridor – more hotels should use such a system because I find some people are incredibly noisy and inconsiderate when returning to their rooms in the evenings, speaking loudly and letting doors bang shut.

The room had an easy to operate safe and minibar. There were plenty of hangars in the wardrobe. One criticism is the lack of storage space. A chest of drawers would have been useful. The double bed was very comfortable and there were lights on both sides which were OK for reading. Tea, coffee and a kettle were provided. The china cups were a decent size. There was a flat screen TV. The only English channel was BBC World. The TV/remote control system also had a sleep facility which I find useful to avoid waking up in the middle of the night with the TV still on.

The bathroom and WC were separate. The bathroom had a large sink area with plenty of room to put your own stuff. There was a shower over the bath. Soap was provided from a dispenser. Shower gel and shampoo were provided in little plastic bottles.

The room had a net curtain and an electrically operated shutter/blind.

Buffet breakfasts were excellent. The lady who prepared everything was always cheerful and asked whether I had slept OK. She even cut me a slice of cake specially and brought me sugar to go with my breakfast – both unprompted.

I did have a slight concern with the security of the rooms. One day, just before 1200, I returned to my room to find that the door, and the doors of many nearby rooms, were wide open. I walked into my room, took what I needed and went out. There was nobody around to challenge me though I could hear voices behind a closed door nearby. Perhaps the security was better than it appeared but I was surprised by this apparent lapse.

I would certainly recommend this hotel.

Booked through Best Western website. Underground car park no problem, there is a public car park 25m further up the street. Hotel charge 5 euro per night. The bedroom allocated was just what we ordered, spaceous clean, comfy bed. The Hotel has no restaurant, however plenty of choice a few doors away, the bar and room service do not operate at weekends. Not a problem for us maybe to others. Breakfast was reasonable - I've had better and worse, coffee was good. The spring weather was warn enough not to put the heating on but not hot enough to need the aircon, everything worked. Had a meal in the next door Bar Kanterbrau - big portions of average french food, acceptable but not the best. We were there on a sunday the city was almost deserted, apart from bars and restaurants everything closed.
