It's tough trying to choose a hotel in Aix en Provence. We used Booking.com and were presented with dozens of very well rated properties - but I think we chose the right one.

The Roi Reine is beautiful. Fabulously decorated in a classy style that avoids being stuffy, this hotel says 'chill' the moment you walk through the door.

We got a room with a huge balcony overlooking the pool - well worth the little extra cost if you like an end of day drink under the stars.

I don't like eating in hotels as a rule, but on the first night we were tired, and went for the lazy option. Superb meal, a great menu with a lovely attentive staff, and a wine listed priced about middle of the range (no sense if being screwed as a captive diner).

The rooms are modern and comfortable, if a little on the compact side - all you'd need except perhaps 20% more space

They have done a really first class job with their pool area, which is set in a courtyard surrounded on four sides by the hotel. The beds are huge and comfortable, and for those with an Irish complexion like mine, the parasols are large and totally impenetrable

The hotel location is great - an easy five minute stroll from the lovely main drag in Aix - Rue Mirabeau.

Finally, a word about the staff. There were always lots of them, all very attentive, and characterised by a ready smile.

Treat yourself - this hotel is a jewel.

Room Tip: Pay the extra for a balcony!

This year marks the 7th for multiple visits and stays at the Roi Rene Aix en Provence. The staff is always very helpful with suggestions for restaurants, shopping and head bartender is superb! The rooms are well appointed, although recent remodeling has resulted in some size reductions. The Hotel is part of a former Royal Residence. The inner courtyard houses a delightful outdoor dining area and lounge as well as a swimming pool. Both buffet breakfast and breakfast by order are available. There is no parking on property unless you use the Valet. A parking garage is available one block away.

Room Tip: Ask for a room overlooking the swimming pool

After reading the reviews about the classic rooms on the outside of this hotel (facing the street), I was nervous about staying in a classic. We stayed in room 114 right next to the elevator and looking out on the front of the hotel. I was again wary about being next to elevator noise...But all my fears melted when we entered the beautifully updated, decorated room. We could hear no noise from the street and we never once heard the elevator open or close. I think the rooms, or at least this one, seems to be very well soundproofed. Since is was in the 90s, we were very happy that the air conditioning worked VERY well. Private parking below the hotel,
in a secure parking lot. (extra charge)

Room Tip: 114 is an outside-facing classic room in the front of the hotel, well appointed and well soundproofed.

booked the hotel through the Accor app. Situated in the center of Aix, hotel offers great Comfort, excellent beds, a lot of space.
Great reception, valet parking - checking in was speedy and charming, first class service though we arrived very late (around midnite).
Room have comfortable beds, great bathroom, lots of sockets for Electric appliance. Balcony overlooking the pool is great, but no proper divider, so you are actually sharing a big balcony/terrass with other rooms.
Breakfast impressive. Checking out took more time due to air crews arriving. Valet service worked very well.
Downsides: we came down for breakfast late and very then asked to move over to the bar because breakfast space was needed for lunch.

Room Tip: ask for a room overlooking the pool - ie. away from the street, as high up in the hotel as possible.
