Hotel des Augustins
Ranked #21 of 69 Hotels in Aix-en-Provence

The hotel is located in the heart of the old Aix on a side street steps from the Cours Mirabeau where sidewalk cafés abound. There are frequently flea markets and vendors set up along the boulevard and of course, the famous fountains. Walking to the many restaurants, shops, and many historical sights, including Cezanne's workshop and grave site is not difficult. The hotel rooms are small but comfortable. Air conditioning is adequately provided by a through-the-wall unit above the door. The lobby and common areas of the hotel are quite interesting. Driving access to the hotel front is impeded by posts blocking the street. However, safe underground public parking is available only a couple of blocks away at the Place Francois Villon. Good signage marks garage entrances. The Office of Tourism is near the elevator exits from the garage. This hotel provided a pleasant stay.

The hotel is in a great position within the old town. There are plenty of restaurants and cafés within walking distance. In fact a great Italian restaurant just 15 metres away. Didn't have breakfast there as we are not big breakfast eaters and a bakery is is just 10 metres away. One disappointing thing was the fridge didn't work and even though I reported it, it wasn't fixed by the time we left. We stayed for 2 days. Rooms don't have a safe and although they would look after any valuables for you I believe they should invest in these. Parking, there is no parking at the hotel, and they say you can drop off your luggage first then park your car, I advise that you should park your car in one of the three fairly close car parks then wheel your bags to the hotel, simply because the street the hotel is in is very narrow and getting to it is a nightmare, by car. I would stay here again though as it is a very comfortable hotel.

Room Tip: We had room 1 which faces the the street, if you had the window open it would be very noisy

We left the hotel we were booked in after one night and moved to the Hotel des Augustins. It was wonderful. The staff were friendly and helpful. My husband had medication that needed to be kept on ice and they provided it with no problems. The building is beautiful and the room was fantastic. It can be noisy with the windows open, but very quiet with them closed. The hotel is within walking distance of all the major sites. The only issue is that there is no parking on site, but the parking garage is very close.

I loved the hotel. The double room was large, tastefully decorated and overlooked the church that this convent once supported. Delighted when I entered my room and saw how bright it was. Building beautifully renovated. Sunlight shining through original stained glass window gracing the lobby and sitting room was lovely. Front desk friendly and helpful. Central location provided easy on-foot access to the city. That's why I rated this hotel very good.

But a room facing the street was not the gift it first appeared to be. Starting around 10 pm, there was street noise -- motorcycles and revelers as late as 2 am. Each time I started to drift off, the noise started again. It was loud to start with and the boisterousness became worse as it echoed off the cobblestones and the walls of the narrow street that at first appeared so picturesque.

Some of the people noise was generated by young adults after a night of fun, some was individuals arguing. Closed windows and closed draperies did little to mitigate the cacophony (and I'm not a particularly light sleeper). The front desk was apologetic and I understand it's beyond their control. If you're planning to stay here, ask for an interior room. I was happy that I was there only one night; had it been longer I'd have asked to be moved.

Room Tip: Choose interior room.

This is such a cool hotel. It is right in the middle of everything. Quick walk to the antique and food markets and very close to at least 30 restaurants. The hotel began as an old convent but the hotel has done a great job of making the rooms convenient and pleasing to the 2014 guest. I really liked the hot pink chenille cut velvet upholstery. Our bathroom was very big and the windows are nice and big and allow guests to actually open then to let in fresh air. The breakfast was good- salami, proscuitto, croissants, fresh bread, yogurt, fruit, and a few other items. The staff is pleasant and very helpful.

I stayed here for two nights. The hotel is very well located, just off Cours Mirabeau and in the old town. Positives include an adequately-sized, clean room. Lots of TV channels and good wifi. The towels and bedding were nice. The breakfast was good, but pretty standard hotel fare. My only 'complaint' is that at the price I payed, the towels should have been refreshed daily.

Great location right in the heart of the old city but quiet enough, wonderful medieval building ( a sensitive conversion of a convent), our room was small, 12msq, but adequate for a single night, quality bathroom with bath and double basin, everything works well, clean, very friendly/helpful staff - can't comment on breakfast , we chose to head for a café around the corner, sensible price at €129 for this size room. Will return.
