We returned to The Cardinale for this trip to Aix and we were not disappointed in the service by the staff or the breakfasts served in the morning. Our room was quiet, but a little worn around the edges. This was not a problem for us as we enjoy the older, less update facilities. The location of this hotel is close to the Cours, but not noisy. Parking is not readily available on the street, but there is a public parking facility within a few minutes walking. There is wi fi available in this hotel.
We would recommend this hotel to any traveler to Aix.

The location was convenient to wherever we needed to go and the room was comfortable and charming. Room was not ready immediately, but they made it up quickly. Breakfast not included, but otherwise great value and a nice place to stay.

The location could not be beat. I liked the building and the room, although one might find it to be a little frayed. The staff was very nice and helpful; we relied on them a lot because the wifi connection was temperamental, to say the least. If it weren't for the virtual lack of internet service, I would have given Hotel Cardinal 5 stars. We did not breakfast there, because there are so many cafes nearby to enjoy the lively street life of Aix en Provence, a city not to be missed.

This hotel had positives and negatives and you have to weigh them out to see if it suits you. The location was excellent. We stayed in the suite so our room was large and we had a kitchenette with fridge and stove and sitting area. The price was very good.
The bathroom was clean and the room had a mostly clean feel. There was a rug which i thought was unnecessary and seemed old and worn , detracting from that clean feel. The kitchenette was clean with the fridge looking very new.
The building was old and the hallway and the room a little was a bit musty smelling. The internet access was very spotty and frustrating. In the four nights that we stayed there they did not replenish our soap at all!! We were down to a small nub. By day three we were just curious to see if it would be replaced. We did not eat breakfast there and had a separate entrance from the main hotel so had little interaction with staff. They were friendly when we checked in and out.
So this hotel had good and bad but generally acceptable.

Room Tip: The suites definitely offer space

We visited Aix en Provence for the first time last May. My husband selected this hotel- centrally located in town, just a few blocks from Cour Mirabeau, bus stops, and main tourist office. One can easily get a meal in the commercial area, explore the city sights, and return to the hotel within minutes for respite. The reason for the 4 stars is the sometimes spotty wi-fi connection. I cannot comment on breakfast since the local patisserie is just walking distance. Otherwise, hotel is clean, though beware of errant pigeons visiting your room if windows or shutters are left open all the time.

Room Tip: If you require very quiet rooms, request for rooms not facing street. The town is quiet already, the...

I rang two days before we left in the height of tourist season expecting a dismissive 'phone-shrug' 'non, complete, desolé' but instead was greeted by a wonderfully friendly man who informed me that there was one room left. 'It does have a mezzanine floor, madame' . . .
having been assured that my 6 ft 6 husband would fit in it, I took the room.
We arrived, the room was good — top floor, obviously the servants quarter or the attic at one time, but fine: roof top views from the little window upstairs and bigger window on the main floor. There was another single bed on the lower floor, so, great if you were visiting with offspring. Clean with small but good bathroom, always plenty of hot water. Very comfortable bed.
The rest of the hotel is my idea of perfect, as the title of review states: antiques, original tile floors, winding staircase, antiques, drapes and tassels, real art (the place is stuffed with paintings and mad monster clay figurines: work of the receptionist's father) friendly staff, and the placement —really could not be better: right in the middle of the historic centre, but quiet.
Great staff; they even offered to store our luggage if we wanted to carry on wandering around Aix, something I've never encountered before . . .
My only slight, and I mean slight questions: we could have done with a shower attachment clip thingy on the wall of the shower, and I felt the breakfast could have been a little more exciting (we took it based on another review somewhere), anyway, it's an option, and I really can't fault any other aspects of this quaint and lovely hotel.

Room Tip: Our room overlooked the little courtyard at the back, so was very quiet, I can't say for the fro...

This hotel is a little gem in a busy city. Tucked away, it offers an oasis in the noise of city life around. We stayed in the annexe (only a few metres from the main hotel) because we wanted the kitchen area in addition to the en-suite bathroom. This is excellent value for (at the time of writing) some 35 euro on top of the basic room price. One of the many local cafes was doing a salad for 13 euros, so for two plus some wine you are saving. Shops are convenient - Casino is two minutes, as are all the expected boulangerie etc. The location could not be more convenient. The hotel is clean and with friendly staff. The annexe does not have aircon at the moment, but fans were provided, which we found to be quite acceptable, although it was some 35C outside. Therer is free WiFi. If you are looking for a base in Aix, this is it.

Room Tip: For a small apartment, go for 30 in the annexe.
