“Contemporary luxury hotel with every amenity in an old city.”
Reviewed 31 May 2012

The exterior of the Aquabella is very misleading, having preserved the old stone facade. The interior is a thoroughly modern, luxury spa hotel. Staff were friendly and accomodating in all areas. Our double room was spacious, with comfortable beds, high count linens, flat screen, wifi, and a large well lit bath. It looked out on the street, but we never heard any noise with the window closed. The restaurant served an extensive breakfast buffet...great breads, cheeses, meats, eggs, juices, fruit...you get the picture.
The dinner menu looked good, but we chose to eat in Aix for the ambiance. The bar was a late night event with friends...good local wines, comfortable chairs, nice bartender.
There are indoor and outdoor pools and complete spa facilities. There is nothing you could ask for that isn't provided. As mentioned, nothing inside the hotel seems aged.
The proximity to the old city and its attractions is ideal. Four blocks and you are back in the 14th century. If you want to see Aix in comfort, this is a good choice.

Room Tip: Rooms on the courtyard side have a view of Aix.

The Aquabella is well located--a short walk from the center of Aix. Our room was modern and spacious and the staff was very accommodating when we requested a room change due to a wedding reception occurring on the deck below our original room. We were given an upgraded room at no additional charge. The entrance to the parking structure is impossible to navigate, so we arranged at the desk to enter on the "exit" side. Crazy!
The Aquabella had one of the nicest pools we have seen in our European travels---large and sparkling clean---very inviting on a hot day. It also has a large whirlpool spa inside a gazebo. This hotel is set up for conferences and other events, so if space, comfort, and spa facilities are more important to you than an intimate, old-world kind of place, then this is the hotel for you.

Room Tip: Ask to see your room first and if you are not happy with the orientation, then you may have the oppo...

My wife and I spent three nights in the Aquabella prior to catching a Uniworld river cruise in Arles. Our first time in Aix-en-Provence and we were totally spellbound by the beauty and personality of this city. The stay at the Aquabella was both comfortable and pleasant. The room was both quite clean and comfortable, and even with the balcony overlooking the street it was very quiet. Did not partake of any of the lunches or dinners served in the on-site restaurant, but the morning breakfasts were delicious and quite filling. Only reason not to have dinner in the hotel is that there are tons of really great and more romantic restaurants spread throughout the local neighborhoods. Enjoyed the European style of breakfast fare as it reminded us of our delightful three years living in Germany. The hotel staff were always helpful, and most were quite friendly and pleasant. Nice on-site bar to enjoy some of the great local French wines. We'd defintitely stay here again.

Room Tip: Ask for a balcony to enjoy the fresh air and quaint local views.

Brought a group to Aix and stayed in this hotel for several nights. Parking did not involve us as we were dropped off. The complaints about parking charges must come from travellers not used to North American hotels which charge up to $20 per day.
Rooms were very adequate, not problems there. The breakfast (yes at e16) was the best one we had on our two week tour. I suppose if you want to walk downtown for a coffee and croissant it would be cheaper, but to eat on that sunny patio with such a great breakfast, it was worth it. Again, in North American nice hotels, you can be prepared to pay $16 to 20 for included breakfast and if ordered from a menu....yikes.
Pool area was nice, staff friendly and helpful
Not far from the Cours, so a great location for us. I would take another group there in a minute.

We stayed for two nights and have a great time - the hotel is nice and close to everything. Great for sight-seeing and the markets. We brought back strawberries and ate them in the garden area - a great start to our vacation. The pool area is beautiful, parking was reasonable, and the bed was really comfortable. What more can you ask for?

The hotel is hard to find if driving your own car. One way streets make it extra difficult. We found the best approach was from Ave Jean Jaures. Hotel parking is convenient at 10 euros a day. The rooms are clean and comfortable not super stylish. Nice lobby and pool area. Great location for sightseeing (best done on foot) and plenty of restaurants within walking distance. The front desk was helpful in making dinner reservations.

Room Tip: Room 214 looked towards Old Town but could get noisy with motor bikes taking the short cut through t...

We booked a double room and were pleasantly surprised when we checked in and got a room with a balcony and a view of the city. Room was clean and comfortable, washroom fresh and modern, bathrobes and slippers are a great perk. But the real treat was the access to the spa! The heated pool and hot tub were a treat and the sensory showers were like no other! All for a very reasonable price in a very expensive city.

Room Tip: Rooms with a balcony facing the city - great for a romantic room service dinner!
