Aix is a lovely town with winding alleyways in the old part and a wide selection of shops and eateries. It was home to Cezanne which is why I was there and an early morning walk on the Cezanne trail was excellent. Before the town woke up empty streets but you could smell coffee and bread on the quiet streets being hosed down. It is good for sauntering but I found the restaurants over priced and limited in selection i.e. great if you like salads, pizza, burgers or steak and chips etc. The town is nice but as with all nice things it wears thin after a day or two and you need to jump on the excellent bus service between Aix and Marseilles to liven up the senses although most evenings there is a band or two playing somewhere in town it has its rather charming limitations.

We loved our visit to Aix and even towards the end of our week were discovering new corners and squares. It was quite lively as the Festival was on and there were many nationalities around but we always found a seat in a restaurant or bar with no problem and ate very well. The petit train and the guided walk helped us understand the history and the excursions to the outlying areas were easy to book at the Tourist Information Centre and added to the whole experience.
The added attractions of the Cezanne sites and the Musee Granet exhibitions added to the experience.

One mystery---where have all the taxis gone?!

The city is beautiful, clean and we loved the Ganet museum. Well worth seeing. We enjoyed the food and wine in one of the local restaurants. The choice of restaurants is wide and the atmosphere is festive and welcoming.

The city is more clean than five years ago but the dogs are still there and we can see the résultat on your shoes ( very bad point). Many students are leaving in Aix apparently and the atmosphere is enjoyed. Difficulties to get a taxi and the drivers are not kind but the weather is fabulous, very temperature and always blue sky.

What a charming city, full of alley ways that are full of shops, restaurants and bars to enjoy.
Had lunch at an outdoor café and then spent the afternoon browsing through the streets, enjoying the shops and Gelato!!
The best advice I can leave is to visit the restroom at the restaurant you dine in, because there are not many others to use. Businesses don't like you coming in to use their private bathrooms and we found that the public ones were out of service.....yikes!
