Aix is a lovely town with winding alleyways in the old part and a wide selection of shops and eateries. It was home to Cezanne which is why I was there and an early morning walk on the Cezanne trail was excellent. Before the town woke up empty streets but you could smell coffee and bread on the quiet streets being hosed down. It is good for sauntering but I found the restaurants over priced and limited in selection i.e. great if you like salads, pizza, burgers or steak and chips etc. The town is nice but as with all nice things it wears thin after a day or two and you need to jump on the excellent bus service between Aix and Marseilles to liven up the senses although most evenings there is a band or two playing somewhere in town it has its rather charming limitations.
