“What a wonderful surprise!”
Reviewed 12 December 2011

I booked this apartment for myself while travelling to Aix-en-Provence for 6 nights. It is a beautiful hotel, very chic, modern and clean. It was such a wonderful surprise as I didn't expect the room to be so spacious. There is a kitchenette a large bathroom, desk and bed which folds up onto the wall to become a couch. The service is great and the front desk staff are really lovely. There is a laundry on site which made life easier. Breakfast is a small buffet of croissants, bread, ham, yoghurt, and juices. Location is a few minutes walk from centre of Aix and there is free wifi in the lobby. A really great stay if you're in Aix. I even extended my stay a few more nights because it was so nice!

I really had wonderful time in this hotel. It is very new and modern, especially the view from balcony just like the painting from Paul Cézanne, worth million.

They had washing machine, which was really great.

Great place, wonderful location - 5 min to the fountain square, 7 min to the townhall and city market. Apparrment is designed very thoughtfully, literally every corner is used. Kitchen is very well equipped. Yes, rooms are not large. And we had problems connecting to WiFi at the reception. Other than that - simply great! Would definitely stay there again.

We stayed at the Adagio in Aix for 4 nights in September 2011. Originally, we were thinking of only staying for 3 nights however it was actually cheaper to stay for 4 - I believe this is because if you stay for 3 nights then they clean the room every day but they only clean it once per week if you stay for 4 or more nights.

The apartments are located down a small street a short distance from the centre of Aix. We drove there and used the car park. There are lots of parking spaces but the entrance is narrow and windy so would be a bit difficult in a large car (no problem for our little Citroen though).

I read on TripAdvisor that the hotel was recently being renovated and it looks like it. All the hotel facilities looked very new. Our room was great. It seemed to be very well designed. The apartment was a pretty good size but they had made such great use of the space available that it had everything that we needed plus more. Having said that though there were only two of us in the apartment. It would have been pretty crowded with four people in it. We cooked on a couple of occasions and found the small kitchen to have have everything that we needed.

Breakfast was available (for 10 EUR I think) however we decided not to use it and just bought food from the supermarket which is just around the corner.

We did use the laundry facilities. They have one washer - 6 EUR - and one drier - 2 EUR - which meant that we did have to wait for others to finish but it was easy to use and quick to wash.

Staff at the apartments were very friendly and very helpful at all times.

Overall, our stay there was really good and I can't think of any reason not to give them a rating of 5.

The location is very good. The service is OK. Here are the problems, maid service is not provided unless you want to pay extra. The hotel room was incredibly dusty (dust bunnies everywhere). One of the neighbors was cooking some disgusting fish dish and it seemed their kitchen vented directly into our room. The smell never left the room even after opening the windows. This was not my first choice for a hotel in Aix but it was what was available. I'll plan much further in advance next time to get a better hotel.

My partner (Swiss-French) and I (American) stayed here for 3 nights in August 2011. Reading reviews on here about the hotel pre-renovation, we weren't sure what to expect for such a low priced room. We were beyond satisfied with our choice.

Super friendly service at check-in continued through our stay, the staff was very informative and never acted put-out to have to answer any of our questions. From the pros and cons of taking the train or bus to Marseille, to looking up the weather forecast for me, to tactfully correcting my broken french (pleurer vs pleuvoir), these folks were awesome.

The studio apartment room itself was spacious, with a large comfortable bed, plenty of plush pillows (contrary to some reviews), a desk, table, chairs, a dresser, flat screen TV, two closets, a safe, an iron and ironing board, and lovely simple decor. It was very peaceful and quiet, the air conditioning worked perfectly, and the general ambiance was great.

The kitchen was fully stocked with dishes, pots and pans, utensils, everything you could need in a fully functioning kitchen. There was even a dishwasher with detergent provided!

The bathroom was beautiful, with an excellent shower, and some of the best smelling shower gel I've ever used. (You can buy it in a gift pack at the front desk!)

The only con we had was that the maid service was a little too eager to get to work, asking if they could begin making the bed and such while we were still finishing getting ready to leave. To be fair, we were only moments from leaving, and it didn't really inconvenience us.

As for location, you couldn't get any better. Right on the western edge of the centre-ville, we could literally walk anywhere in town easily. Also located right near the Casino Supermarket to fulfill all grocery shopping needs.

When we come back to Aix, we wouldn't consider staying anywhere else!
