My wife and I stayed there for several nights during our vacation in southern France. The entire place is quaint - they have a quiet back garden where you can just sit and relax, or have a breakfast in the morning. They have a spa where you can swim at the pool or get a massage. Rooms are very cute and clean. The customer service is fantastic! Very pleasant. Not to mention the picturesque location... If we ever go back, will definitely stay there again. The only thing that was average was the pre-cooked food at the cafe - not bad by any means, just OK. The fresh morning breakfast, on the other hand, was great!

Room Tip: Apparently some rooms have better views. Reserve ahead and ask for those!

The location is unbeatable, our room looked straight onto the Arena, felt like we could touch it at night!!
Great sized room for our family of four (kids aged 3 and 5). Outside breakfast was lovely, staff were super helpful especially with parking. Bathroom lovely, good value for money. Would have stayed an extra night in hindsight rather than move on to Aix en Provence.

We chose this hotel for its excellent location - in old town near les arenes. Parking is tricky, but we managed. The hotel rooms are not special, but clean. Our bed was not comfortable. We arrived at night and were not even greeted... had to track someone down. The man had a vocal problem which may be why he seemed disinterested and didn't speak much. He repeated our last name to us, nodded and thrust the key into my hand... without a word of welcome, instruction, etc. However, the next morning, the staff was incredibly warm and helpful... so we might have just hit on an unusual night?

Room Tip: No lift so avoid this hotel if you cannot climb stairs with luggage.

We had a very pleasant room with a very comfy, good size queen bed. French doors that opened to the most amazing view of the arena - see the photo I took from our balcony. There was a small balcony that you could stand on but alas was not large enough to sit at, still it was wonderful to wake up and pull back the curtains to such a view! The bathroom was small but the shower worked well and lots of hot water so no complaints.

We unloaded our bags when we arrived and then the receptionist escorted my husband to the parking lot that we had reserved in advance. This was very helpful and also having reserved the parking in advance meant that as we came and went from the lot we did not have to mess around with finding the correct money.

The courtyard is very pleasant and we would have a glass of wine there most evening before heading out to dinner. It is a very easy walk to all the local restaurants and shops. The reception and cafe area are always busy with people coming and going but not unpleasant. They do provide free wifi and I suspect that some travelers that were not staying in the hotel come in for a coffee and make good use of the wifi.

I would stay here again.

Room Tip: Request a room with a view of the arena.

This was our first time in Arles and we picked the Hotel Le Calendal by a Rick Steve's book recommendation. We were quite tired after a long hot roadtrip and were pleasantly surprised by the helpfulness of the staff with everything from finding the parking lot to carrying our bag up to our room for us. The room had a pleasant scent of lavender and overlooked the lovely patio. The location was perfect for walking to all of the ancient Roman ruins , monuments and Van Gogh painting sites. We can't wait to go back and wish that our schedule had included more than 3 nights there !

Stayed 3 times at this hotel before, last time in 2007. Discovered it was far too long since our last time, and that the hotel and our favorite room was still fantastic! Great to be back in the lovely garden, sipping some wine and enjoy a lunch under the trees. This time I missed the great Provencale buffet, but food was still good. The hotel had become a SPA-hotel since our last visit. Used the small pool and the hamam, great relaxing spot. Hope it will take less than 5 years till our next visit!

The Hotel Le Calendal was part of our Provence tour and an excellent choice! Situated right in the heart of Arles, a magnificent city with Roman monuments dating back to the 1st century BC. This ancient city is also where Van Gogh produced many of his paintings. We were assigned a large room, #41 'tilleul', right off the garden patio. The staff were friendly, always with a smile. The restaurant fare was well presented and delicious.

But, what made this hotel so welcoming to me was the help I received from the owners. I became ill the week before arriving in Arles, and realized that I needed to see a doctor. Frederic called his wife to assist us in seeking medical help. Since it was a weekend, and a Sunday to boot, Cicily took us to a private clinic and guided us throughout the visit. She sought out the doctor on duty, took us down the hall, up the stairs, over to x-ray, translating and explaining everything. After consultation, and with prescription in hand, Cicily took us to a pharmacy that was open - hard to come by as we had tried earlier in the day. She was truly an angel whose willing efforts were much appreciated by my husband and me.

As mentioned, the hotel is well situated amidst Roman monuments and perfect for a week's stay (or longer) to use as a pivot point while visiting the sights of the south of France. It is an extremely comfortable hotel, a nice resting place after a day of sightseeing. Easy access to ruins, museums, shopping and restaurants. They have a spa if you are so inclined to take a day of rest.

Next time in Provence, we will definitely stay again at the Hotel Le Calendal.

Room Tip: Rooms off the patio, especially #41 'tilleul'.
