“An old world experience”
Reviewed 4 June 2014

We stayed here for 3 days as part of a small group tour. Our room was situated on the ground floor with a table and chairs on a semi-private terrace. Easy in and out, the room was small but cozy and right off the "lobby". There is a lovely garden that appears to be popular with people coming to have a drink or lunch. Almost all attractions are within walking distance and a Roman arena is right next door. There was a small sandwich type restaurant attached to the hotel with the loveliest young women, who could speak excellent English, ready and eager to be of service. Breakfast was included for our group with typical continental type offerings. The hot chocolate was really good. Fresh croissants and other offerings were delicious. Would definitely stay here again.

Dear Guests,

Thank you for you comments after staying with us. It is a pleasure to read that you have enjoyed your stay. As you mentioned, the hotel is right in the city center between the antic theater and the arena, all the attractions are in walking distance. The garden café is open 24/7 for the guests of the hotel were we serve, homemade sandwiches, fresh salads, home made soup (hot and cold) cocottes , which are main courses that our chef prepares each morning, desserts, ice cream and drinks. You can either have a seat in the garden or else facing the antic theater. We hope to have the chance to see you again on a next trip to the south mean while please keep posted on our Facebook page.

We were doing a self guided tour of Provence using Rick Steve's guidebook. He suggested
this hotel. We enjoyed are stay at this hotel. We reserved parking ahead although in
May the lots were available. The location was great. The private terrace in the garden was
really nice. Our only concern with our unit was the stairs. We had to negotiate at night and
they twisted very sharp. If you are young and sleep through the night this shouldn't be a problem.

We loved our stay in Arles, and Le Calendal. We were so graciously welcomed and enjoyed the sunny and warm decor, balcony in our room, laundry service and great breakfasts here. The spa overlooks the Roman amphitheater and you walk everywhere in this town easily. They contacted us immediately whenever we left our iPhone charger and are arranging its return to us. We appreciated the staff here.

A few years ago [2007] my wife and I, along with my brother and his wife, spent a few days in the Le Calendal Hotel in Arles in southern France. The hotel is perfectly placed in a wonderfully interesting town - museums, market day etc. In fact the amphitheatre is about 80 feet to the right as you exit the front of the hotel...! But just outside town you can go to one of the most interesting sites in France ... Les Baux-de-Provence. It has a lower 'city with people' and an upper 'city of the dead'. The walk up is worth the effort and has several interesting shops as well as some that are up scale for that quality 'packable' art piece you were waiting to buy as a reminder of your trip. The explorings of this city on a bluff [with a hugely magnificent view of the entire valley by the way] needs 2 or 3 hours to really take in. Seriously great ruins of days past that one can easily envision the glory of Bauxite. Truely worth the time and a do-not-miss late morning to mid-afternoon visit.

Room Tip: There are no elevators in the hotel so be careful of 2nd or 3rd floor rooms. The in-hotel resturaun...

Dear Guests,

Thank you for posting your comment about our hotel. It is wonderful to read that you enjoyed your stay with us in 2007. As you mentioned the hotel is located in the city center between the Arena and the Antic Theater, the perfect place to stay when wandering around. Don’t need your car, but we do provide parking places in the city center for 8 Euros the 24 hours. Don’t forget after wandering all around the Provence you need to relax at our Spa (only for adults 18 and older) with steam room, power full shower and big Jacuzzi looking right off the Arena. We hope to have the pleasure to see you again, meanwhile please keep posted on our Facebook page.

This hotel has a great location, only note that if you're with a car there is not much parking around the hotel however a 5 minute walking distance has wide boulevards with easy parking (may be a little more difficult in pick season). Close to many of the attractions and dining options, rooms are spacious and clean, we enjoyed 2 peaceful nights without any problems or noise.

The staff was very helpful, on two occasions we needed help and they went out of their way to assist us, this is not something to take for granted and we certainly appreciated it.

We had a great experience at this hotel. Our room was nicely decorated with yellows and blues that were perfectly Provence. The bed was very comfortable, the room spacious, and we had a nice view of the classical theater across the street. The hotel is very centrally located so you can easily walk to all the sites. We enjoyed a drink in the shaded outdoor courtyard. The breakfast had much to choose from, and the staff was pleasant and helpful. We would definitely stay again.

Solid hotel, great staff but crappy internet. The staff were outstanding and went out of their way to be helpful. But, we could still hear our neighbours shower. Great location. Didn't get a chance to use the spa
