“Nice Hotel”

The Hôtel de l' Amphithéâtre was a very stylish small hotel near the roman forum and amphitheater in the Center of Historic Arles. Our room was basic and at street level, which is REALLY noisy, but we liked our location and the lobby. Lobby? It actually felt like a modern library or reading room in museum. Lots of nooks and crannies and rooms for chilling after a long day of touring. Just pick another room other than #31; they know it is really noisy, too. When we mentioned it, they just gave that smile and shrug. The area in winter is slow and laid-back; summer must be very different. Some great restaurants are right around the corners; both up and down the hill. Try Le Charcuterie Restaurant down the hill for a intimate and unique experience; great regional cuisine. The omelet café and the luncheon café near the amphitheater are great. Le Grillion (sp) nearby was a really bad restaurant and incredibly rude; too bad since it has a great location. In any case, we would be happy to stay at Hôtel de l' Amphithéâtre again. Good value.

Room Tip: Ask for a quiet room by email before you arrive, and inspect before you move in. Wish we have; I was...

The separate guest lounge areas were a real surprise in this very pleasant 33 room hotel - no shortage of space for you and your friends to share a drink. Reception were very helpful and the location very central.

We booked a classic room and a superior one and ended up in the converted terrace across the lane from reception - so we had room 31 on the ground floor and 33 (the superior) on the top floor - the latter one was very enjoyable with a spacious bathroom and entrance way. Yes a few stairs but that was expected.

Parking was fine and once parked you do not need your car in Arles - at least not if you choose to stay here in this scenic historic part of the old city.

Restaurant recommendations were welcome as were some loan umbrellas. This hotel was an unexpected surprise. Very Highly recommended.

We arrived at the Hotel de l'amphitheatre a little tired after our early morning flight and the person at the desk (one of the hotel owners I think) kindly let us check in a few hours early. They were very helpful at the hotel - providing info on parking, etc. We were even given a free upgrade since it wasn't the busiest time of year. The location of the hotel is outstanding (near the theatre antique) and Arles really lends itself to exploring on foot - there is so much to see in a short walking distance. The breakfast at the hotel also was outstanding. I would highly recommend this hotel - you get a lot for a reasonable price.

Parking in roman Arles is easier for chariots than cars. Needless to say google map is a blessing but be warned you'll need you carry you cases when you do find a spot to dump the motor.
The hotel had been thoroughly and stylishly renovated both the public rooms and the bedrooms. Super location lovely staff. Enjoyed my stay greatly.

Stayed one night in early December when weather was very cold. But this hotel was warm and cozy. Room 9 was small but perfectly adequate for one night. Spotless. Bed very comfortable with cotton sheets. Continental breakfast at E8.50 was more than adequate. Free access to computers in residents' lounge. This is a historic hotel in the centre of Arles and very well maintained. Free on-street parking is available quite near to the hotel but be prepared to carry your luggage through narrow streets.

Our first night prior to our river cruise. Arrived by train from Paris and walked to the hotel, only 15 minute walk. A wonderfu old hotel with large rooms. The gentleman at the desk was very helpful and pleasant. We carried our suitcases ( he even offered to help) to the 2nd floor. Very nice room and nice bathroom, considering this building was one of the original buildings in the old town right by the Amphitheatre. Beds were very comfortable, room was clean, what more do you want?
Breakfast was extra, € 8.50 per person for continental and € 10.50 for regular breakfast. We ended up sleeping in too late to catch the breakfast so we went into town to find a restaurant, spent more then that, so would highly recommend eating at the hotel.
I would definately go back, lovely old town.

Room Tip: Ask for a room on the 2nd floor, you can over look the rooftops of the town.

We stayed two nights at the Hotel de l'Amphitheatre in central Arles. The property is very well appointed. The decor is beautifully done, with art and wall hangings that blend a Mediterranean feel with a sense of the city's ancientness. The front desk staff were helpful and efficient, taking no time at all to set us up with a 3rd floor (2eme étage) room which was very comfortable. The bedding, facilities, and amenities were all of high quality ... it was obvious that the hotel is well taken care of. One note for travelers is that there was not (as far as I could see) an elevator, so those who are unwilling or unable to climb stairs might ask for a room on a lower floor or seek another hotel. We were on a week-long train trip with our backpacks, so walking was rather the point!

As to location, the hotel is perfectly situated. It is steps away from the central Roman ruins which largely define this French city, and right in the heart of downtown for shops and restaurants. Of course, in November, a great many shops and restaurants were closed for the off-season ... Arles, as a city, felt much sleepier than, say, Aix-en-Provence this time of year. Nonetheless, we did find all the services we needed in centre-ville, and having an easy and close walk to and from the hotel made the stay very pleasurable. I highly recommend this hotel for its amenities, location, and friendly staff.

Room Tip: In November, the city is very quiet, so there was not much street noise. If you stay in the high sea...
