This was a great apartment! We booked it through TripAdvisor for our honeymoon, and the owner, Alexandre, was great about corresponding. He was very friendly and professional, and he gave us a lot of advice regarding restaurants and attractions when we arrived. He will mention that his wife owns a great restaurant in the central square, Chez Caro - this is not an exaggeration or a scam. The food at Chez Caro is DELICIOUS! We ate the homemade foie gras, bone marrow, lamb, pork, vegetables, and salads.
We stayed on the second floor in Apt B, which is really cute and modern. The apartment is composed of 2 rooms. The living room has a futon, tv, and AC. The kitchen occupies the corner of the same room and is pretty well equipped - mini fridge, electric kettle, coffee maker, glass-top stove, oven, and plenty of dishes and cookware for small meals. There's a small balcony attached to the living room with tall French doors and a small table with 2 chairs. It's great for eating al fresco in the tiny courtyard surrounded by other old apartments.
The second room is the bedroom/bathroom. There are a few downsides, but they weren't unbearable. First, the bedroom is always at least 10 degrees warmer than the living room because the airflow isn't great. But if you leave the AC on cold for a while, it eventually cools off. Second, the bedroom is also the bathroom...yeah. There is a half-wall about 4 feet (1.5 meters) high that separates the bedroom from the toilet, sink, and shower. So if you have to pee (or otherwise) in the middle of the night, your partner will hear (and smell) everything. There are also no doors separating the bed/bathroom from the living room, and there's no shower curtain/door. We created the illusion of privacy while using the bathroom by draping a blanket over the broken folding screen and placing it in front of the doorway between the bedroom and bathroom. It worked well enough, though it didn't block out any sound. Honestly, this didn't really bother us because the apartment was well furnished and in an amazing location. We barely spent any time at home.
We loved the location! We were at the western edge of the old city, just within the Roman wall and near the highway. Free parking was a 5 minute walk away (as long as you don't park there on Saturday morning, which is market day). Patisseries, boulangeries, fromageries, charcuteries, cafes, excellent restaurants, and shopping are a 5-10 minute walk away. The Roman artifacts (museum/ex-chariot track, baths, arena, and theater) are a 10-15 minute walk away.
The only real problem was that the neighbor adjacent to the bedroom played A LOT of techno music... at RANDOM hours. It was really unpredictable, but fairly often we would suddenly be accosted by thumping bass, and the music was always awful. We had difficulty sleeping on 2 separate occasions, and it often distracted from our peaceful outdoor breakfasts. But the music was only on every now and then, and it only really bothered us 2 out of the 7 nights we were there. Like I mentioned, the rest of the experience was great. I'm sure that if we had bothered to ask the owner, Alexandre, he would have tried to speak with the neighbor about dialing it down.
Overall, it the experience and location were great, and I would absolutely recommend this place for a couple. :)
