“Charming hotel in central Arles”
Reviewed 3 September 2014

This is a nice place to stay in Arles and Arles is a lovely city for a short stay. Very central but also quiet. The rooms are retro-stylish and airy but not airconditioned. There is no fridge in the room and no ready access to ice. There is a nice balcony on the second floor which is usually empty and a small hipster place for simple food in the courtyard outside the hotel. The breakfast is basic for the price so if in Arles on a Saturday walk 5 mins to the market, otherwise there are several good patisseries nearby. Parking is an issue, we used the main brutalist carpark 10 mins walk away for Euro 15/night.

Lovely stay for two nights at this hotel in beautiful Arles. A very modern, retro in design, big room with great bathroom. All very new and sparkling. Good location and very helpful, friendly staff.
Arles is a magic place and this is perfect accommodation. ( before it gets too hot!)

We stayed here for a quick night in Arles based on the TripAdvisor reviews. This place is an -awesome- value and a generally lovely stay. It's a bit of a pain to deal with the garage setup they have, but the walk with your stuff is only 5 mins (not as bad as we'd expected given the TA reviews). The room was lovely, clean, and quiet. The hotel is central in the old town. And the staff were very welcoming and nice. Overall an outstanding experience and perfect for a night or two in Arles.

I would categorize this as a boutique hotel. Delicious breakfast, very nice hotel, friendly staff, beautiful rooms. Only 2 drawbacks. No airconditioning. During the day, it was 36° C, so had to keep the windows open. And since there was a festival going on (and the hotel is close to the amphitheater) it was EXTREMELEY noisy (until 2am). Of course not the fault of the hotel, but they should have informed us upfront... But still, I would come back here! So my score does not take into account this complaint about the noise, caused by the concert...

This hotel was very nice and the design was wonderful. We had a nice superior room which had a nice sofa and a terrific bathroom. It would have been nice to have a fridge and coffee making facilities too, for this price.
Service was very good, and the girl who was in the reception when we arrived was really nice.
The location is perfect, on a small street close to everything in the old town. But there was one problem: The hotel did not have air conditioning. This doesn't have to be a problem, since the hotel was on a small street we could keep the windows opened. The windows had mosquito nets which we thought would keep the mosquitoes out. But they were not good enough, so we were waken up by mosquitoes about every 30 minutes.
It was a pity since this hotel would have been so good otherwise.

Room Tip: Check the mosquito nets.

Very central location in the old Town. Room had all one needs including very fast internet and very good bed. The breakfast is a buffet no eggs but it really did not matter as they was ample of fresh fruits and cold cuts and bread etc to choose from.
The staff were very friendly and helpful and welcoming. The Hotel has a very nice Tapa Bar outside their Hotel with very nice fresh food and wine. I loved sitting outside under the tree and drinking a cold Rose wine. I felt very much at home in this hotel. The only slight problem for me was that we had to carry our luggage from the car park up a hill to the Hotel and no elevator . Next time less luggage :0) There is no air conditioning but we did have a ceiling fan which was enough. We will definitely come back

Situated in an easily accessible street in old Arles, this is a beautiful boutique hotel. It has been decorated in vibrant colours, which convey a modern sensibility fully in harmony with the style of the very old building. There is a wonderful rooftop terrace where you can sit and have a drink whilst gazing out over the roofs to the hills beyond. Our room on the 2nd floor was spacious, with fabulous views of this old town.
Easy access to the Camargue, Arles was the highlight of our trip to Provence - Roman ruins, art, food, wine and vibrant local culture.
We parked our car in the covered public carpark. From there getting our bags to the hotel was easy. A bit of an uphill walk to the hotel, but not difficult to negotiate. About 5 minutes from the carpark.
There is no lift. But only 3 storeys to the hotel, including the ground floor which does not have any accommodation. The hotel receptionist carried our bags up to our room before we got back from lunch after dropping off our bags, which was wonderful, I thought.
The building doesn't have aircon, but not many places in Arles do have aircon. The ceiling fan helped, and opening up the windows at night enabled the room to cool down.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
Located on a quiet street in the historical centre of Arles, the Hôtel du Cloître is just steps away from the Roman Theatre, Amphitheatre and the main square, “Place de la République”. Thanks to the cool shade of a majestic 100-year-old Paulownia, the entrance of the hotel reminds us of an appealing authentic little Mediterranean village square. The hotel reopened its doors in July 2012 after being entirely renovated and now features an interior design combining sobriety and warm colours, the signature of the designer and architect India Mahdavi. With its 19 rooms, the hotel has an intimate feel with a cosy and welcoming atmosphere. In our lounge, make yourself comfortable and consult our wide collection of books on Arles history, the Camargue, the arts and photography. Our bright spacious rooms and suites are comfortable and supplied with ceiling fans, Wi-Fi, cable flat screen TV, hairdryers and direct landline telephones. Our bathrooms are equipped with either a bath or an Italian shower. On the rooftop terrace, our bar offers a stunning view over the Saint-Trophime church steeple. ... more   less
