“A weird one”
Reviewed 16 October 2007

I had mixed feelings about this place. It's very central and the building is very impressive on the ground floor but upstairs . . . it's sort of Gothic. They have distempered the walls in olive green and purple and the curtains are grey crushed velvet. In a dark and gloomy building with little natural light this is really odd. The reception looked quite nice but the upper floors hadn't been done very well, everything was a bit tacky and tatty. There was no safe and from their response you'd have thought I was expecting something unheard-of when I asked about this. I had a tummy bug and wanted to see a doctor but the person on reception just looked horrified when I suggested he might be able to recommend one. I speak fluent French by the way!

  • Liked — The central location
  • Disliked — Dark and gloomy and most of the time you saw no staff at all

We were at the hotel for four days and we had a lot of little problems with the owner...
First, they had us pay the rooms and breakfast on our first day, which is quite unusual...
When we arrived in our room the bathroom was not really clean...
On the second day, we didn't have any hot water in the bathroom...
On the third day we had to wait for 30 minutes before someone arrived to serve us breakfast (and we were not early-breakfast eaters)... and usually the breakfast table was dirty when we arrived...
And on our last day, the maid enter the room to clean it while we were getting dress (around 10 am)... quite unpleasant!

The design of the hotel is really nice but the management is really bad...
So this hotel could be nice for a short stay, when you don't have time to meet all those problems, but I wouldn't recommend it for a more than 2 days stay...

We booked and confirmed the hotel in January. On our arrival in June there was no booking. However they were able to find us one. (Quite easily as we later discovered as there was only one other guest!) They insisted that we pay for our five day stay up front, which stupidly we did by creditcard. After we had taken our cases to our room we were asked if we would like a bigger one overlooking the courtyard but at an extra 20Euros per night. (We declined.) Our room proved to be hot and noisy. There was a fan but it was so loud that we couldn't sleep nor could we have the TV on as there was only one power point. After two sleepness nights we decided to leave and because there was a problem with communication I went to the tourist office and had then ring the hotel to tell them that we planned to leave on our fourth morning and to ask for a refund. The hotel agreed. Next morning they acted as if they'd heard nothing. They agreed to give me back one night's accommodation but in the form of a French cheque which I couldn't cash. I would not recommend this hotel to anybody. It has a very good website, which is deceptive as the only charm is the front door and entrance. The staff are rude, the breakfast is poor, the towels thin and small and the whole hotel is dimly lit.

  • Liked — The front door and entrance lobby were impressive.
  • Disliked — The rude staff, the room and the breakfast.
  • Tips/Secrets — Don't stay here.

They do not speak English. So, If they answerd you e-mails as they did with us, carefull!!!... They made such a mess out of our reservation, I have never seen something like that in my life! When we arrived they wanted us to pay for one more room, just because they did not understand our communications in English. Wanted more money for the rooms... And insisted very agresively that we pay for one more room. After we showed them e-mails and faxes, they never said "sorry". The young owner invested lots of money for the remodeling, but seems like he doesn't really mind loosing guests and buisness. He had terrible behavior with us.
Our twin room just had a queen bed ect....
Newly remodeled hotel, but somehow very dark (makes you be afraid of spirits). Breakfast room is practicaly black, we had a feeling of having breakfast in a funeral chamber.
They also use a potpourri so strong (we wandered what smells they were covering up). The smell of it was so strong that one of us could not fall asleep until 6 am on the first night. Her eyes got all swallen and red and she had to move into another hotel the next morning..
There is a very nice courtyard garden, but unfortunately we were not able to use it, as it was always locked by key.

Beautiful little hotel situated right in the city center. The rooms overlooking the street can be a little noisy at night, specially saturdays, so ask for one overlooking the courtyard if this is a problem. Asides from that it was a great stay at an affordable price, and the interior is very well decorated.
