When you are asked to pay up-front on arrival without even being shown your room, you know there is going to be a problem! Especially, when you are also told on arrival that the price quoted to you does not include VAT - and you are immediately charged another 10%! (Definitely not on the paperwork.)
"Suite 16" (now at 140 euros/night without breakfast), on the first floor, is accessed along a corridor so dark that it is impossible to see your own hand let alone where the key fits into the lock. Think dank, worn, uneven floors, with mirror ball lights on sensors, long after the party has ended!
No WIFI. No TV signal. No blanket/duvet (despite very cold nights). NO HOT WATER in the evenings (according to the Manager, this is because everyone is using the water at the same time.
Isn't that what happens in hotels?)
In the bathroom, there is nowhere to put your toiletries, the sink tap sprays water everywhere, and the mirror is so high that you can only admire the crown of your head.
The party next door goes on until 5 am, not conducive to rest, even though your bedroom is so narrow and deep that you feel you have been prematurely entombed.
Reception is unattended for the large part of the day (one is more likely to encounter The Manager at the local pizzeria, as we did, than at the hotel).
From the moment you have paid on arrival, you are given the impression that guests are simply an irritant. Complaints are haughtily brushed aside. It would have been a relief if, over that 4 days, Basil Fawlty had entered stage left...
The only pleasurable part of my stay was leaving that hotel.
Get out of the kitchen if you can't stand the heat.

We were pleasantly surprised by the nice decor of the hotel, but the first impression was not good. We booked this hotel on booking.com and there was no mention of the reception being closed. We arrived at 1:30 and there was no-one around we banged and banged on the door but to no avail. We eventually walked to the tourist office who phoned the hotel and got someone to et us in. Then the owner tried to charge us full price and not the price that we had agreed on booking.com. The owner did not speak English ( our fault for not being able to speak French!) so we were lucky that someone else was checking in and helped translate for us so that I could get the wifi code and show her the price we had agreed.

We needed a hotel to overnight in Arles. We found the Hotel St Trophime near the ND St Trophime and booked a room for $96. I was bare bones and very dated. It needed a through cleaning. No A/C. I left the window ajar to get some circulation and get the musty smell out. Traffic and street noises made for a restless night. The mattress was lumpy and the sheets threadbare. I scratched all night from something biting me. We would have left if not for a need to get some rest. I would recommend this Hotel as a last resort only. The only advantage is that it is close to the Roman ruins and in old town.

Room Tip: I would recommend this Hotel as a last resort only

We arrived at 11am with a confirmed booking for one night plus parking. No record of the confirmation. We were told to leave our luggage since the parking would't be free until after noon, and to come back at 2.30 when the owner would be available. No owner, and reception then said he had put us in another hotel without informing us. She did not have the actual address, could not give us any paperwork confirming the arrangement, price, etc. At the other hotel, we were told the room had been "settled" by the St Trophime. But he had not transferred the request either for a lower floor or for parking. We only had the one short day in Arles, and by the time we re-loaded and re-unloaded luggage, found parking, managed the stairs, etc., it was 4pm. Relatives were still at the St Trophime, so we lost another hour the next morning (market day) circling to get from our parking back to our hotel and then to St Trophime once again. During this time, reception was quite inappropriately interrupting them to ask them to pay our City tax (€0.90 x 2) while they were trying to converse with friends.
When we heard about their 3 days in the hotel (dark breakfast room, toilet and t.v. that didn't work and were not repaired after being reported, inability to get the WiFi code from Reception), we were just as glad we hadn't stayed there.
Completely unprofessional hotel management. We should have been informed of their error in the booking and the proposal to put us in another hotel without elevator and parking so we could have made other arrangements or gone to the other place at 11am instead of waiting for the owner. If the person at reception was just substituting, they should have had better training and complete information to perform the necessary taks. Completely sabotaged our stay in Arles.

We stayed here for only one night and we were very impressed. Christoff who greeted us was friendly and professional. The hotel is located on a small street right in the center of the city. The moment you enter this building you will be struck by the impressive and spacious interior, which has many stunning architectural details. Our room was on the first floor and facing the street but there was almost no street noise, The bed was very comfortable with crisp fresh sheets and the room was beautifully decorated with antique furniture. The hotel has a really nice courtyard and there are also some cozy communal seating areas.Overall The hotel is very tastefully decorated with some nice pieces of antique furniture. I liked this hotel a lot and am surprised that It hasn't got a higher star rating ,It is definitely the best quality 2 star hotel that I have ever stayed in .I hope that I get the chance to return some day .

We stayed a week at this hotel and we had a nice experience. We would return there again, the location is great and overall good value for money.

The room was of a decent size, nicely decorated with old but not shabby furniture, very comfortable double bed, very clean. We paid 69 EUR per night and we thought it was good value for money. The building of the hotel is beautiful and located in the very centre of (small) Arles. It is just off the main square (city hall) and a 2 min walk to the famous Place du Forum. The lobby of the hotel is large and charming with beautiful oak doors and nice pieces of furniture. It has a beautiful staircase but there's also a modern lift. The small inner patio offers quiet and a nice break from the hustle of the centre. What we didn't particularly like was the rather odd shower system whereby one has to hold the showerhead in one's hands. Not very convenient (wny not just hang it on the wall??). The room was quite dark and the overhead light (no ceiling lights) was a bit too weak to read. The TV worked fine and had a nice selection of channels. Another slightly annoying thing was that the hotel reception closes around 7 meaning that you have to carry the one key they give you with you all the time.

We didn't have breakfast at the hotel because honestly you can get so much more and better for 10 EUR per person. Besides, you have to order breakfast the evening before and they do want to charge you for all the breakfasts upon arrival. Since we have been to Arles many times before, we have immediately opted out and instead enjoyed breakfasts in the city (plenty on offer for as little as 5 EUR). So unless you want to have breakfast at the hotel, we recommend eating out. Place du Forum alone has at least 4 or 5 cafes offering breakfast. If you are looking for a more hearty & salty breakfast (as opposed to pastery and jam), check out Hotel du Forum. You can enjoy buffet breakfast there for 10 EUR per person by the swimming pool (selection of eggs, ham, cheese, toast, etc).

As if you are thrown back into another age. Lovely decor, some of it a bit worn but that only adds to the charm. At 80 Euros not the cheapest, but then again the quaintness and location makes up for it.. Right in the middle of Arles, close to everything. Madame received us into her office, she does everything by hand and was the quintessential traditional French Hotel Owner. Very formal and polite, speaks only French...The room is style-full, the bed comfortably firm, the bathroom has an odd design with the hand held shower and no shower curtain. Other then that, a lovely stay!
