“A Fine Choice in a Touristic Treat of a City”
Reviewed 17 August 2014

Tucked away in a characteristically narrow street close to the banks of the mighty (and lonely) Rhone River, is Hotel Musee, an attractive and atmospheric place that welcomes the traveler with fair prices and a pleasant stay in the city of Ancient Rome and Vincent Van Gogh.

At about 90 euros per day, including breakfast, Hotel Musee represents good value for money. We had a most enjoyable and relaxing two-night stay in what was our introduction to the fascinating small city of Arles. Our double room, number 21, was tidy and came with a small TV, desk. and air conditioning, but it was very tight, with little room to move around. Indeed, the overall size of the room, excluding the bathroom, was the most disappointing aspect of our stay. The bathroom, on the other hand, was rather large relative to the size of the bedroom. It featured a contemporary, Provençal-style quality that was very appealing. The lighting was bright and even, with a very large mirror. Unfortunately, the tight shower came with a curtain that was reminiscent of getting clean after a game of racquetball at the local YMCA. The towels were plentiful and satisfactory in the thick-and-thirsty category.

Breakfast at Hotel Musee is an enjoyable affair. While there is no cooked dishes on offer, there is the usual supply of cold cereals, fruit yogurts, and salami and cheeses. The peaches, while tasty, did arrive via a can. On the plus side, however, were the ultra-fresh croissants and French bread which were delivered to our table upon our arrival. That was a nice touch. It should be noted breakfast can be taken on one of the hotel's outdoor patios which are quite charming and reminiscent of a rural setting rather than a centrally located hotel.

Another of the Musee's strong suits is its location. While a mere few minutes' walk from the historic core of Arles, including the mighty Roman arena and marvelous St. Trophime Church, the traveler feels nevertheless removed from the hustle and bustle of this touristic city, and the hotel remains a lovely refuge from which tranquility can easily be obtained.

Location, a terrific price, and aesthetically charming, Hotel Musee is well worth considering when traveling to the fine and historically significant city of Arles. Try to steer of the overly tight bedroom, but do give it your full consideration.

Room Tip: Room number 21 makes for for a very tight room for two people, though bathroom space is sufficient.

This hotel offers a perfect and lovely location for exploring Arles, within the old city, one street away from the Rhone river. Areas of interest and good restaurants are minutes away on foot. Our clean, comfotable room faced the street, but it wasn't noisy, and it was a pleasure to watch the light over the rooftops in the mornings and evenings. The staff is gracious, well-informed, and they
run the hotel with unobtrusive, quiet effeciency. The courtyard, lush with greenery, where breakfast is served, is charming, the food. We were happy to be there, and to come back to its comfort after long days of wandering in the city.

A friendly and helpful welcome, beautiful rooms, individually decorated in subtle Provençal style (the ones overlooking the courtyard being particularly quiet), well equipped shower room, everything spotless and comfortable. As well as the lovely courtyard for your ample buffet breakfast, there is a dining room and two cosy lounges for when the weather is chilly or wet. Have stayed at this hotel several times over the past 15 years or so, and it just gets better. The old town is now closed to public traffic but the hotel provides a code for drop offs and pick ups. No lifts, public parking a few streets away (less than 3 € a day) make it a little difficult for elderly or disabled guests, but as long as I can manage, I will continue to stay here. Highly recommended.

Querky place but really great and set in the Old Quarter.
Parking is on the street (somewhere), or in a pay and display car park.
Great location, many restaurants near by, breakfast included and good.
No lift so depending on your room......plenty of stairs (room 29!)
Give it a try!

We really enjoyed our stay in this beautiful hotel. Its a little difficult to find if your driving and parking is non-existent at the hotel. We were directed to a public parking lot about 3 blocks away.
The hotel staff was friendly and helpful, the room was fine, we liked that the toilet was separate from the rest of the bathroom, but don't understand why the French don't put up shower curtains or shower enclosures ? Breakfast was enjoyable each morning in the indoor room or the courtyard area. Excellent coffee and croissants ! Definitely would stay here again. If you're driving make sure to call ahead for instructions on how to enter their street, You need a special code to enter into a box, similar to a call box at a gated community.

This hotel was so pleasant we had to extend our stay. The room was charming, spacious, quiet and clean. The location was excellent in the historic part of Arles walking distance to everything we wanted to see. The staff were all pleasant and helpful and breakfast mouthwatering. I'd love to return when it is warmer to enjoy the delightful courtyard. The fact that it didn't have some of the features of big, modern hotels, like large screen t.v.'s, was of no concern to us.
