I recently spent 5 days at Mas de Capelou, and wish it could have been twice as long. This lovely historical estate is nestled amidst pear, apple and fig trees. Birds chirping, blue skies, elegant pool, lots of spots to nap or read...I was there with my (lively) 82-yr old mother, and we stayed in the ground floor suite - a large master bedroom with good-sized bathroom/deep tub, with a smaller bedroom with two beds and doors leading to a covered patio. The room was very clean and modern, with two sets of curtains to give one a choice of deep darkness, or to allow the moonlight and sunlight to stream in the upper window while maintaining privacy below. Mas de Capelou is a five-minute drive outside the walls of exciting Avignon, and yet is quiet countryside. The location was much more convenient and user-friendly than trying to drive or park in Avignon. It is perfectly located for day trips in any direction - we did Les Baux, St. Remy de Provence, Arles and Aix en Provence, there are plenty more. Jean-Pierre served fresh bread and croissants, homemade jellies and delightfully strong coffee in the morning, with options for those who need a bigger breakfast. Dinner is an option on weekends and is not to be missed! Catherine's cooking is innovative, she uses fresh, local ingredients, and the flavors are marvelous. She made a pear tart one night that I am still dreaming about. A similar 4-course meal at a restaurant would have easily been twice the price, and in such a peaceful lovely setting it could be very romantic for some! Truly, the dinners we had there were the tastiest we had in all of France, including Paris and Lyon. The pleasure of the meals was enhanced by Jean-Pierre and Catherine, a delightful, intelligent and interesting couple. Jean-Pierre is resourceful and informative and assisted us as well as others in making reservations or researching information on the Internet (there is WiFi). We highly recommend Mas de Capelou.

Room Tip: The bathtub in the Capeline suite is deeper than typical American bathtubs, and could be challenging...

We were 2 couples and had booked 2 rooms for 3 nights, we loved the place.
Pierre was a great host and showed us the place and around.
The rooms were very cute and traditional (they also had some modern apartments)
There was a decent size pool and garden where the fresh breakfast was served. Pierre personally served us the breakfast which was extremely fresh and tasty (though they could have some more variety).

The location was decent far enough from the noise and close enough to the city. The road outside was small and perfect for walks or cycling.

Some of the rooms had a flight of stairs so it was a bit tough getting bags up. There were some spiders in the room which freaked out one of us but but the moment we showed it to Pierre he personally removed them and sprayed the room thoroughly.

Overall an excellent stay and great value for money, we would highly reccomend this place.

You will see from the other reviews how peaceful and relaxing a place this is. What really made it for us was the hospitality of Jean-Pierre. Nothing was too much trouble, and his determination to ensure that we had a good stay was outstanding. How anyone could book this not knowing that you need a car (it's fairly isolated - yet only minutes by car from Avignon) beats me - and it seems that the negative reviews tend to reflect this oversight on the part of the visitor. We booked the Capeline b&b room (actually two rooms plus bathroom and wc), with it's raised private terrace immediately outside its second set of french doors. This was a great spot to sit in sun or shade, protected from the Mistral that was just picking up during our stay (and making the al fresco breakfasts a little chilly otherwise). Highly recommended.

Room Tip: Only Capeline and one of the apartments are on the ground floor.

We stayed at the lovely Mas de Capelou for a week and had the most wonderful and relaxing time. We booked the Apartment Clementine - a tasteful 2 bedroom apartment. Extremely spacious (we were just a couple but a family or two couples would have found it perfectly accommodating), modern appliances, beautiful walk in showers and thoughtful touches such as the HD tv, citronella candles (to accompany our outdoor dining on the gravelled terrace overlooking the grounds!) and plenty of storage. The pool and gardens are beautiful and perfect for enjoying the sunny weather - I loved relaxing on the wicker lounges dotted about the gardens. I must also compliment on how well the kitchen was kitted out - I am a keen cook and was very keen to do justice to the wonderful Provencale produce and it was so easy to cook almost as I do at home, with all the necessary appliances.
In terms of location, it is is perfect for exploring the region - we took in the southern Cotes du Rhone villages, northern Luberon, Les Baux, Avignon and Villeneuve of course, as well as Arles. The Camargue would have been possible too if only we had more time. There were also lots of farmers markets in Villeneuve, Avignon and other nearby villages which worked out perfectly for us. We enjoyed sightseeing and eating out in Avignon from time to time, though I am so glad we decided to stay out of town - you would not achieve the same atmosphere and level of peace, quiet and relaxation if you choose Avignon.
Jean-Pierre is a welcoming, gracious and discrete host and keen to ensure that his guests enjoy themselves. We hope to return next summer!

This has been the best choice for us for a little stopover in Avignon. This beautiful and extraordinary place has been renovated and designend with so much individuality and charme - we felt so blessed ;-).
With the first view to the park and the calm atmosphere we decided spontaneously not to go out for diner at night but to enjoy the delicious little "collation" Jean offered us in the garden. We had a organic red wine from the region with it and as a marvellous "finale", Jean offered us his homecooked tarte a l'abricot. You have to taste this!

Room Tip: The suite Capeline has two rooms an a little terrace. Here you can have a little privacy and in the...

We recently spent 9 nights in the magical Mas De Capelou - 2 nights in the Capeline Suite (B&B) and 7 nights in the Marquis apartment.

The Capeline suite was a lovely large room which was beautifully decorated and the breakfast of fruit, baguettes, croissants and a freshly baked fruit tart under the shade of the trees in the garden was an idyllic way to wake up in the morning.

The Marquis apartment was also the perfect apartment... large, modern and clean with a balcony, a good sized kitchen and all the necessary equipment to make a self catering holiday run smoothly.

The gardens of the house are beautiful and truely relaxing. The swimming pool is large and great for both adults and kids, as it has a good sized shallow area.

Jean Pierre is a fabulous host - nothing is too much trouble and he is very welcoming. We loved our stay at Mas de Capelou and we will definately return some day.

Our family of four stayed at Mas de Capelou for two nights in July and count it as the highlight of our stay in France. The grand old house is elegantly restored. It sits in the shade of some lovely old trees, surrounded by pear and cherry orchards and set against a backdrop of sunflowers. A row of cypress trees borders the large swimming pool, which was a cool and relaxing way to spend a hot day, especially with some cold local wine. Combined with the fragrance of lavender in the air and the sound of cicadas, Mas de Capelou is a truly amazing Provencal experience!!!

Jean Pierre was a gracious host! We felt privileged to be so well looked after by him and his friendly team.

Mas de Capelou is located close to the historic, fortified city of Avignon, which was wonderful to visit and atmospheric at night, however it was also delightful to drive back, to our quiet retreat, through the Isle de la Barthelasse itself, with its wheat, orchards and sunflowers. We only wish we'd stayed longer to have spent more time in Avignon as well as soaking up the atmosphere of this beautiful place!

Room Tip: Capeline has a bedroom with a queen size bed, and another small room with a single bed. We requeste...
