The website photos of the Villar and Mistral Rooms looked so charming so we simply stayed 2 nights in each to avoid having to decide between the two!!
Pride of home was evident - from the well appointed common living room with piano, oriental rugs in the bedrooms which generously decorate the already warm tones of the timber floors, luxurious bed linen to l'Occitaine toiletries. We always looked forward to returning to Domaine de Rhodes, after each day's outing!!
Our hosts, Francios (Shirley MacLaine) and (Antonio "Zorro" Banderas) are warm and personable. We really enjoyed their company and hope to revisit in late Spring.

We very much enjoyed our visit at Domaine de Rhodes. We appreciated the hospitality. Our room was spacious and well decorated. Breakfasts were wonderful and we enjoyed visiting with Francoise while eating, to get suggestions for our day. We hope to visit again!

Staying at Domaine De Rhodes was a highlight of our trip to Provence. The couple who run it, Francois and Paco are wonderful and the grounds and house are so lovely. Having breakfast in the restored dining room of this chateau was so enjoyable and great to spend with the other guests. It was mostly English speaking guests too which was good for us in the middle of France. We had the apt next to the house because nothing in the house was available but still enjoyed the lounge/wifi area and the dining room in the main house. I would not only return to this retreat but highly recommend it. Thanks Francois and Paco for a lovely time.

We spent five nights with Francoise and Paco and they could not have done anything else to make our stay more enjoyable. The location of the property is perfect – when you walk around the old town of Avignon and see the parking situation, it is with an enormous relief that you realise you have picked the best location. Only a few minutes from the town to one side of the river and another few minutes to Villeneuve de Avignon on the other. Wide open spaces, plenty of parking and the only noise at night was the 'hoo-ing' of the owls.
The house is warm and inviting and the lounge area is the perfect place to wind down after a day touring. Comfortable, leather lounges that you sink into and relax while reading or catching up on a bit or work (sometimes a necessary evil).
Breakfasts were a delight and Francoise and Paco showed great warmth in sharing it with the guests each morning. They are a wealth of information about the area and their recommendations for restaurants (AOC and Basta Cosi) were wonderful. We were lucky to share out stay with MargoC (below) and thoroughly enjoyed the company. This is what makes B&Bs special and Domaine de Rhodes is an exceptional example of why we continue to choose this type of accommodation.
One of the most appealing features of the property is the spaciousness – we stayed in Matisse which was enormous, with plenty of hanging and cupboard space. We were able to make ourselves at home and Francoise was so accommodating in showing us where everything was, to ensure our stay was as comfortable as possible.
The only disappointment was having to leave.... we could have spent five weeks in the area. Thank you Francoise and Paco, the perfect hosts.

A big thank you to Francoise and Paco for a very perfect last week of our 4 month trek across Europe.
The house is everything that you could ask for, from beautiful rooms, to a lovely library/living room, a large dining room and the grounds are so inviting.
We stayed in a room in the main house and it was very large and comfortable, the bed was the best of all of our accomodations, the large bathroom and shower with tons of hot water was so appreciated. The room has air conditioning and heating and we were able to access Wifi.
In the living room you can sit of comfy leather couches and read and sip a cup of tea. In the morning the large dining room is set for everyone to eat.
Breakfast includes orange juice, tea and coffee, fresh croissants and baguettes and usually another fresh bakery assortment, yogurt and cereal.
What we found lovely is that Paco and Francoise sit at the table with you and chat, they are a lovely couple that are very easy going and so very friendly and knowledgable. They are around if you need help and seem to take everything in stride.
The price is right and the whole house is spotlessly clean.
We thoroughly enjoyed our six nights and highly recommend staying here for a good base to explore Avignon and Provence.

We spent a delightful week at Domaine De Rhodes in October. We stayed in one of the little cottages. They are more simply furnished than the rooms in the house, but offer a little kitchen which is nice for light evening meals. There is only one restaurant on the island and we usually didn't want to drive far at night.

The main house is an old chateau with a lovely dining room and sitting room for guests. The grounds are lovely and I'm sure the pool would be enjoyable in warm weather. In October it was nice to sit outside in the afternoon. Breakfast was tasty breads, pastries, jam, juice, yogurt and granola with a choice of coffee or tea. We enjoyed meeting the other guests at breakfast and sharing our experiences of touring Provence. Paco and Francoise were very helpful with suggestions for sightseeing routes and restaurants. The location is a great base for day trips.

The island location is very convenient to Avignon, without having to deal with your car in a congested medieval town. There is a free municipal parking lot adjacent to the bridge and a free shuttle bus to town. So there is no need to worry about driving in the city. It's also a short drive over the bridge to Ville Neuve-les-Avignon on the other side of the river. Ville Neuve also has a convenient municipal parking lot. I think you really need a car if you stay here. You could tour the island with bicycles, but using taxis into town all the time would be a pain.

We would love to make a return visit to Domaine de Rhodes. My only caveat is that it's difficult to find the first time you drive there. They need to add a really good map to their website.

Room Tip: Rooms in the house are more elegantly furnished, but the cottages have tiny kitchens with a stove, m...

We spent the first four nights of our honeymoon at Domaine de Rhodes...and are already planning a trip back for a future anniversary. We can't say enough about this beautiful, serene, welcoming oasis. From the first moment that we pulled up in the gravel drive, we felt that we'd stumbled upon a hidden gem -- and every minute we spent at Domaine de Rhodes merely confirmed that initial impression. Our room (Vilar) was charming, spacious, comfortable; we can't recall the last time we'd slept so well. The ancient house and grounds are beautifully decorated and maintained; breakfasts were simple and enticing; the summer kitchen beckoned us for a twilight picnic; the pool offered a quiet, refreshing spot for midafternoon siestas. And we loved being out in the countryside yet just a stone's throw from the city -- the perfect combination.

Most of all, though, the heart of this place is Françoise and Paco, our enormously gracious and generous hosts. They went above and beyond to welcome us (even arranging a special honeymoon surprise for our arrival, in cahoots with one of our friends in the States who had contacted them in advance) and were a true pleasure to talk with during our stay. We couldn't have felt more warmly welcomed or better cared for.

As many others have said, our only regret was that we couldn't stay longer. Merci encore, Françoise et Paco!
