Booked a triple room at the Grand Hotel, located beside the train station in Avignon. The room we had was more like a suite, with a small sitting room. It was roughly 142 Euros per night IIRC.

The room was clean, with a nice enough bathroom. My bed, (the third) was more of a cot, so I think I would just book a single if I was to stay here again.

The front desk was friendly and helpful.

The breakfast was really nice quality, for 15 Euros. It seemed steep at the time, but after visiting a half dozen more hotels in France after the Grand Hotel, the breakfast in retrospect was a good deal.

The walls of the Old Town are just across the street from the Grand Hotel, so it was quite convenient, but waiting for the traffic light to change in order to cross sometimes seemed to take a long time.

If I returned to Avignon, I'd be more likely to stay in the Old Town rather than at the Grand Hotel, mostly because the immediate neighbourhood around the Grand does not have many options for dining or coffee, and it isn't particularly attractive. Luckily, I like to walk, so the 10-15 minute walk to the nicer parts of the Old Town from the Grand Hotel wasn't a chore.

The hotel is just a 3-min walk from the Avignon Center train station. If you come from the Avignon TGV train station, you can take a 10-15min bus ride (Euro 1.1) from the station and stop at the bus terminal. The hotel is just opposite to the bus terminal and the wall.

We stayed at a superior room which is very large, with 2 double beds, LCD TV, a living room with sofas, a large bathroom (with shower area and also bathtub). Free Wifi access. Quiet and safe.

Very helpful staff who can speak English well.

We stayed 2 nights here but it was suppose to be 3 nights. We left early because we decided the drive between Avignon and Aix-en-Provence was too long (2 hours) and would stay in Aix since we were on the way to Nice after that... It worked out perfect. Our stay was GREAT! Our suite was lovely, nice terrace and we could walk out in to the hotel's garden. We had a lovely table and chairs outside as well. Nice bathroom and a living room area. Hotel has parking (enter on the right side of the hotel) and the hotel is close to old Avignon and the center of Town. The TGV station you arrive in from Paris is 10-15 minutes away by car/taxi. The station that is located a few blocks up the Street from the hotel is not the one you arrive in coming from Paris(FYI). The hotel let us check out early without any penalty and has free internet off the lobby in a small private booth and was very helpful. The front desk spoke good english and the staff was very friendly. We loved this hotel and Avignon and would go back!

We booked a week with Cricketer holidays - in their brochure this appeared quite a lush hotel. It was well positioned just outside the town walls, a few minutes walk to the centre.

All of our party were given 'suites' - in most cases 2 bedrooms and small 'sitting room' per couple. Plenty of space if a little frugally decorated and furnished.

I would consider it to be no more than 3 Star - restaurant mediocre. However the worst thing was that the only English language TV stations were Eurosport and CNN. This was most frustrating as although we are by no means 'square eyes' there were times when we just wanted to flop out for an hour in front of the TV. Surely the 'Grand' could do better than that - even BBC 1 would be a help.

My husband and I spent one night at this hotel while on a trip through Provence for our first anniversary. We loved it! The location was fabulous; just a short walk to the main street of the old city. The hotel was beautiful and our room was huge. We felt so spoiled! The breakfast brunch is NOT worth the price, but otherwise we totally enjoyed our stay here. We will return for sure if we have the chance to return to Avignon.

Stopped here for 2 nights in September with our 3 children, we got a suite which was clean and sizeable. There was a day bed on the first floor with a bathroom and up a spiral staircase were two more bedrooms and another bathroom. The hotel is beside the trainstation but that didn't really bother us. It is only a short walk to the sights, Palais etc. It is not really a hotel that you would want to sit around in, the restaurant didn't look great, breakfast was expensive at 16 euro per person, they even charged the full price for our 3 year old who only had a half cup of hot chocolate. Overall the hotel is fine for a stop over if you have an agenda for the days but I wouldn't like to be stuck there for a week.
