“Main Street in Avignon”
Reviewed 9 September 2013

Chain stores including Monoprox, Zara, and Macadonalds. Dog poo. Many homeless people. Broken glass. Cigarettes. Millions of tourists.

Very helpful tourist office. They kindly printed information for us on French streets signs in English.

The back streets offer much more charm.

“The main drag.”
Reviewed 13 August 2013

This is the main road into the old city. Many shops adorn the sides. It turns right in the center of Avignon where there is a plaza d'Horologie. A left turn will take you to higher end shopping and if you follow it to the right, Les Halles

“Shopping street with chains but theatre festival turns it into party”
Reviewed 25 July 2013

I gave it an average review because on an average day I would say it's a...well...average main thoroughfare with lots of chain stores including a Monoprix (which I love). The night we were there it was closed to cars though and it turned into a giant street party and then it was no longer average, but extraordinary.

“Good, Standard Shopping”
Reviewed 13 July 2013

The Rue de la Republique is a wide thoroughfare filled with many of the standard European shops (H&M, Mango, Zara) found in any major European cities. Its wide open feel, stemming from the 19th century, is a stark contrast to the narrow lanes elsewhere in town. For tourists, you'll find ice cream here, abotu €2.50 for the first scoop, less for the second.
