“Great hotel for the budget traveller”
Reviewed 4 January 2014

We recently stayed at Hotel Mignon and really enjoyed our time there. This is a budget hotel so if your priority is to stay somewhere that is clean, in a good location, has friendly owners and is good value for money then this is the place for you!

Hotel Mignon is located on the northern end of the Rue Joseph Vernet which is lined with small shops and boutiques displaying stylish clothing and footwear.
Our triple room on the first floor was a comfortable size for two; as wardrobe space was minimal we utilized the third bed to lay out our clothes. The tiny bathroom comprising shower, hand basin and toilet was very, very compact, a challenge to excessive movement. The hand held shower rose was a little awkward to use without spraying and flooding the floor, however good water pressure and ample hot water. A very quiet air conditioning unit in the room which we did not use much; and the room had the benefit of having a window which opened above a little pedestrian passage.
A good French style breakfast was included, staff pleasant.
When we checked into the hotel, our room charge for two days had already been processed to the credit card we were required to supply when booking. This was a little disappointing as we prefer to pay by cash and thus avoid the additional charges levied by our credit card providers The information issued at the time of booking stated that payment would be made on check-out; to reverse the charge probably would have incurred an additional bank charge.

Maybe we were there on a holiday weekend. The town was obviously very heavily booked so we ended up in this hotel and were glad to get a room.
Perhaps the rooms vary a lot. Ours would have looked like the one in the photo a long time ago.
We felt we paid a very high price for what we got here. It was one star at a 3 star price.
The fitout was all very old and although rooms were cleaned regularly it had that sort of ingrained dirt that requires new carpet and curtains. i felt I needed to keep my shoes on.
We could only just squeeze between the bed and the bathroom and yes, I'd agree that you wouldn't want to be too tall to use the toilet.
However, hosts were friendly and the position is great.
There's a brilliant restaurant around the corner about 30 metres away.
So if you are happy with one star and get it for a one star price, go for it.

Room Tip: Not the one we had!

My wife and I stayed at this hotel last night and it was perfect!

A great hotel for exploring Avignon. 3 min walk to the main square and shops and cafe's on the street of the hotel. Michelin star resteraunt La Vieille Fontaine is also a 3 min walk away and Pont du Avignon bridge is a 5 min walk away.

It's a 2 star hotel, but it was perfect for us, very clean, safe, quiet, roomy, great service and recommendations from the owner and excellent location. We arrived with a car and parked on the streets. We paid € 68 including breakfast (coffee, juice, bread, croissant).

Highly recommended!

Reviewed 10 September 2013

Not sure what all the terrible reviews are about, this hotel was great for us. We stayed three nights in September in room 10 on the 3rd floor. Our room had everything that was advertised, TV, AC, wifi, a small bathroom with shower. The bathroom is small as is the case with many boutique hotels in Europe. My husband is 6' 2" and had no issue with the size of the bathroom (though he has some practice with the small bathrooms in Europe!). It was very clean and it was cleaned every day. It didn't smell bad or like smoke as some reviewers said about their rooms, and I tend to be picky about cleanliness and smells. As to reviewers who had issues with deposits and reservations, I don't know, but we booked directly on the their website and had no issues.
The wifi didn't work in the room the last night we were there, Serge tried to fix it and when he could not, he apologized and gave us a password to use the wifi in the reception area, no problem. Suzy and Serge, the owners, were very helpful and kind to us and we were able to communicate easily with Serge in English.
The room was a great value for the price and feels more personal and local than a large, anonymous hotel. It's a cute and unique little place, the decor is dated but it is clean and I thought it added to the charm.
The location is perfect in old town Avignon, short walks to Palais du Papes, central train station, the TGV station shuttle, and many nice restaurants and shops.

Room Tip: Room 10 is a good double

The room was on the small side, but it was clean. The bathroom is tiny, but Rick Steves told us that before we went there, and anyway, this is Europe. The staff were all friendly and helpful, especially Serge Faroux, the host. Breakfast was typically French and worth the cost. Wifi was not always consistent, but when I mentioned it to Serge, he replied that he would "power off, power on" just like we have to do at home. The other staff, however, didn't seem to know this quick fix and said we'd have to wait for someone to come and fix it. The location is great, near the Palais, near Pont St Bevezet, near the main thoroughfare, about 20 minutes from the Gare. We would stay there again without hesitation.

I stayed at Hotel Mignon the last week of February. I booked for one night and ended up staying for four nights because I thought it was just perfect. The rooms are small but offer everything you need. Serge and Suzy were very gracious hosts, gave me maps and directions to the sights I wanted to see. The location is central and I felt very safe staying there. I would highly recommend this to a single female traveler on a budget.
