I thought we had made a terrible error. The hotel was on a tiny street that taxis at busy hours couldn't reach. The desk was closed from noon till 2 and a secret code necessary to enter. What on earth had we gotten ourselves into. But then we arrived at the normally closed hours. The delightful owner of this family run hotel greeted us and suggested a detailed touring schedule. Assembling and storing our bikes was no problem. The rooms in this seventeenth centuy building were much larger than I expected, quiet and cool. Breakfast was rounded out with home made yogurt and jams and fussed over by the owners. Their attentivness made this stay a delight.

I stayed in the triple room on the second floor. The room was a bit disappointing for the price. The bathroom was tiny and the (not much bigger) room slightly "worn", although the beds were comfortable. We could hear the occupants of the next room, though there was little noise from the street. The breakfast was adequate but nothing special for the price. The owners sent us to several local restaurants which were OK, but again nothing special. As other reviewers have stated, the location is excellent - very central but just outside of the noisy, central square. The location bumps the experience from 3 to 4 stars because the convenience of being able to walk everywhere - we walked to and from the TGV station as well - was terrific.

Stayed here for 2 quick nights in a non-descript room and felt I should write a quick review. Pre-checkin with the owners was excellent, and they are very helpful with any questions you may have. Yes, it's located on a small walking only street, but had no problem finding it via both Google and via the taxi driver who saved us from the TGV station because the local train to the central station is so infrequent we found it to be a giant municipal expense joke, but that's another matter! At any rate, the location overall worked very well for sighseeing. with the only annoyance having to go to another hotel for a car pickup for a local tour.

Our room was at the back up a tight sprial stairwell. Fortunately the owner helped us, going up anyways. The room was mostly clean, and looked straight into another building. It was nice to have a small fridge in the closet, but we didnt like the noise that came straight thru the wall from perhaps another stairwell? Fortunately it's a small hotel so we werent bothered too many times by that noise. At least no traffic noise! The wifi worked not bad, and the breakfast was fairly good, but likely not worth the amount, which is kind of what we felt about the cost of the room after the 2 nights as well. No reflection upon the owners as they were friendly throughout.

Most hotels are reviewed on the quality of the room, the location, and the breakfast. On all of these categories, Hotel Garlande excels. It is a the historic center of Avignon, a wonderful walking city. Our room was clean and adequate and the morning breakfasts were great, including the best yogurt we found on our trip to France.

But what is so special about this hotel is the owner, Emanuele. She brings and extra care and attention by connecting with her guests and offering her help with your visit. Some other hotels we had, it was just check in, get the key, here is your room mentality. That is not so for Emanuele. She wants to know how she can help make your stay and visit a good one.

For me that meant a lot because I was very sick when we stayed at Hotel Garlande for two nights. I had a fever and spent the days sleeping in our room. Finally when I asked about seeing a doctor, Emanuele sent me to her own doctor just a few blocks away. The experience was positive, I got antibiotic for an infection and started to recover for the train trip to Paris.

Sorry I didn't get to see the sights in Avignon but I am grateful for a caring, warm hotel owner. That makes a difference!

We stayed for one night in this hotel. You pay for the location as opposed to the actual room we found. Emmanuelle looked after us very well, and gave us plenty of help finding the place when we got lost! We checked in late afternoon during a busy time and were given a room next to the street on the ground floor. We spent a good while killing the many flies in the room, and emmanuelle gave us a plug in for the few mozzies.

She gave us a top notch dinner recommendation - lifetime best foie gras (husband still talking about it!).

I wouldn't go against recommending this hotel, but would say its expensive in comparison with other hotels in a much better state. The room was tired and a bit dark and dingy...in need of renovation. The owners are renovating the whole place in the winter, which is fab. I think for us, we had just stayed in an incredible B&B for the same amount the night prior, but as I said....location location!! If you book this hotel, for the price you'll pay, request a room NOT on the ground floor. The owners are lovely.

The hotel is small but exceptional clean and airy. It is located in the center of the town, within walking distance of everything. Surrounded by many fine restaurants and sightseeings, you can still enjoy the very relaxing atmosphere walking around. The hotel is hard to find so make sure you bring the directions and map provided by the owner. Stephan and his wife are wonderful. They would give you valuable travel tips. The hotel is 300 years old but the room is exceptionally clean. Stephan even carried heavy luggages up the narrow staircase for us. We would stay here again.

Room Tip: Low floor for older traveler

This charming hotel is located 100 meters off of the main square / plaza and close to all of the town's tourist attractions. The better restaurants in the City are within several blocks of the hotel. Being located a few blocks away from the main square allowed for restful quiet sleeping. The owners, Stephane and Emmanuelle, are the most gracious hosts and will provide anything that a guest needs. The bed was comfortable and we had a spacious bathroom in room 6 on the top ( 3rd ) floor. We hope to go back to Avignon one day to stay here again.

Room Tip: We liked the light and feel of room 6 on the top floor.
