Madam Emmanuelle runs a great little boutique hotel only a couple of blocks off the main square and provides caring and service with aplomb in English. Easy walk to the train station, tourist office, and many cafes. A longer walk to the spectacular Palace of the Popes, the Petit Palais Museum and the St. Benezet Bridge which stops abruptly in the middle of the Rhone. But that's another story.
The rooms are small, of course, but some of the baths are quite large. So ask for a room with a full bath. We only paid around 100 euro per night (three nights). Paid extra for a tasty light breakfast each morning before starting out on our daily adventures. Check your map, because Rue Galante is short and tricky to find the first time.
All the French folks we met in Avignon were pleasant, friendly, helpful and sharing -- like which wines were best to drink at lunch. Or dinner. Enjoy!! JK
