“A place to visit”

A wonderful place to watch films, drink wine and coffee, or eat (there's a restaurant). A committed place for culture and movie buffs!

“Charming cinemas with independent films”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 12 July 2014

Tucked away on a side street in Avignon, Cinema Utopia is worth the trip. Allow plenty of time to find the cinema. There is a cafe connected. Tickets do not sell until 10 minutes before the show starts so do not worry. There is a sign out front that says what is playing that day and a pamplet with info on what languages each film will be in.

“Great choice of original language films”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 27 May 2014

This cinema is a twin with La Manutention ( which has a restaurant ) and offers a wide range of original language films. Get there early since it is popular.

“My local Cinema”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 25 May 2014

I am based 45mins away, and this is my local for English movies. Utopia is just be-hide Palace de Pope, and the first few times a bit hard to find, but if coming from the back (where its easy to park) just aid towards the back of the gold statue. It show all films in the original languages with french sub-titles. The theater is very comfortable with lots of leg room and deep seats, I have never been there when even a third full. I buy tickets in bunches of 10 as its a lot cheaper. I have not eaten there, only had beer, coffee or great hot chocolate. Their web site is very good and of course in French, still on laptop I can use my translator.

“A great verity of Films”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 26 January 2014

A pleasant building set behind the 'Palais des Papes' & a little difficult to find the first time, it has a very French feel, with small Cafe' & a typically French small restaurant either side of the foyer. Tickets are sold only a few minutes before the start of the film, so queuing is inevitable, but it somehow adds to the overall experience. Although mainly a French cinema, in recognition of the City's multicultural population, many film performances are presented VOSTF, which is Version Originaux Sub Titre Francais & that means an English/American film is spoken in English, but I find myself reading the French sub-titles anyway. A good way of augmenting one's French. Always enjoyable.
