Popped in for a late'ish dinner on our final evening in Avignon. It was about 8pm on a Monday, and many other places were closed. In truth, we were just looking for steak frites, and we picked the right place to get it.

Server was stuck dealing with a lot of patrons all by himself, so it was a bit slow. However, he did his best, clearly trying to pay attention to everyone.

We shared a tomato/mozzerella salad (which was pretty good), and then each ordered the entrecôte with fries. It came cooked as ordered, and our side dipping sauces were fine, though not earth-shatteringly good. The thick-cut fries were fantastic and totally hit the spot.

It's a casual place, with a nice sized patio. Nothing fancy, and hardly spotless, but it's serviceable. While the menu is fairly limited, it does the trick for a simple meal out. Just allow some extra time as the place seems to be chronically under-staffed. French is definitely preferred, but they do offer english menus to those who need them.

Steak, wine, and the shared salad came to a reasonable bill at the end -- about 45 Euros.

We sat out overlooking Place Pie in the evening and ordered from the 2 course menu special. 16 Euro for 2 courses. We had the shrimp skewers and the burger for main course and the tiramisu and tatin pie for dessert. The burger actually turned out to be a steak, but a tasty one with pepper sauce, so no complaints there. The waiter gave us an English menu which was very useful but could speak very little English himself. Nevertheless between us we got by. Service was relaxed and slow. Ambience was superb. Lots of people watching to do in the square. We still don't actually know what the Tatin pie was but it tasted of pear, 'Tatin' on the English menu didn't help us! Coffee was rich and tasty and came with a chocolate....

16 euros ( i think?) for 2 courses with a view of the square is about right. We had smoked duck salad, smoked salmon tartare entrees, flank steak with frites and béarnaise and large cheese burger. All was well cooked and presented. Tasted good, all in all very hard to fault. Especially as there was only one floor staff on who serviced all 12 tables and did drinks behind bar too.

This restaurant is not American-friendly. The menu does not have descriptions in English, which of course is fine -- after all, we are in France -- and the waiter either doesn't or chose not to speak English -- which again is fine though I expect for a 20-something-year-old it's relatively rare not to speak any. What was worse was the uninterested service or even annoyance as we used our poor (but always attempted) French to order and ask questions.
The dinner (Italian Burger and Prime Rib) were quite good. The desserts were not -- the Tarte Tatin (apple upside-down cake) tasted like it had been reheated as did the chocolate fondant. The cafe (coffee) was good and strong.
It's nice to sit outside in the square on a busy Saturday night -- but this restaurant wasn't busy at all. Might have something to do with the server who can't crack a smile or be friendly in the least or maybe it's just the food isn't over the top like so many others in the walled city of Avignon.
Still, the food came out quick and the entrees themselves were good, in addition to the setting, so Wall St Cafe gets an average 3 stars.

Of course we have english menus, it was the first day of the waiter, maybe he was under pressure and forgot to give you the rights menus and to smile !

We are pleased to see you enjoyed the food !

If some day you come back to Avignon and Wall Street Café, we would be very pleased to have the opportunity to show you that our deepest concern is our guests satisfaction.

We stopped here for a quick bite and wish we wouldn't have. It was late, so there was none of the quaint people watching other reviewers talked about. We had a very plain burger and fries with a harried staff who acted like we were more of a bother than not. The staff was too busy with their friends who were on the patio near us. Wish we would have grabbed a baguette and cheese...it would have tasted better and wouldn't have frustrated me so...
